mpow66m you would be surprised what one doesn't need, however i know i like to hear people talk, even though i don't always listen i like voices as background noise, they make the silence less loud. Thanks for your input though

At some of the shippers and receivers you will need a CB for them to contact you, it maybe like channel 4 or 2,; it makes it somewhat easier waiting if you know they are going to get ahold of you when there, you can at least take a nap if it is going to be awhile.

When they ask if I have a CB I tell them no so they then ask for a cell phone number. If you are to listen to the CB then you have to listen to all the other docks get called in...

I only use a CB at a shipper or receiver if required or if I see traffic stopped on the interstate, otherwise, it's OFF. Get a satellite radio.

Sirius is what husband has had for several months now and he really enjoys it. get the one that plugs into the cigarette lighter and you don't have to worry about having it installed. He had to get a different antenna from Iowa 80 though because it would not pickup from one side of the country to the other unless the antenna was moved. Radio Shack had the unit on sale a lot cheaper than Walmart. It came with an antenna in the box too, but was small, guess it was for someone who drove a car and perhaps stayed in one area more so than being all over the country.

I heard on the FM radio the other day that all lanes of I80 east were stopped at the IL/IN border. I got on the CB and shouted it every few miles. I got many thanks from drivers.

Rarely it is helpful, but when it is it can save you hours, half a day or more. With the info, you can now decide to reroute or shut down, before you have no choice but to sit, parked on a highway.
