Not bad but not good. A year ago or 1.5 yrs ago would be good. We’re on the downside of the climax now. It’s going to take a little time before you can go for round two. lol
Good time or bad??

You naysayers are just trying to limit the competition!
There's never been a better time to become an Owner Operator! DAT is full of big time paying loads right now!
This business is like the gift that keeps on giving, the tree of life, you know the same fountain Ponce De Leon was looking for!
If a guy isn't lazy and is willing to work, he will soon discover those top secret broker agents (that no one is willing to say who they are) who will pay you vast sums of money per load! Oh yeah, I'm not kidding either!
Just buy yourself an old truck for say 5k to 20k, put a little elbow grease into it on the weekends, buy yourself Kevin Rutherford's books, videos & accounting software and you're ready to roll!
Whatever you do, DON'T buy a new truck because warranties are worthless! As soon as the dealership sees you coming in for a warranty repair, you'll go right to the back of the line! It might take WEEKS or MONTHS to get that warranty repair done! All the while you're stuck with a $5,000 per month payment!
Lastly, make sure you subscribe to SiriusXM and listen to RoadDog Radio religiously. You'll learn all the tricks to the trade from those top notch guests and callers with pseudonyms in no time!Rideandrepair, PPLC, fordconvert and 1 other person Thank this. -
Has there ever been good time at all?

I'm sorry you have to deal with all the people who want to be the next sarcastic comeadian of the year just to get a decent opinion.
The load boards have work year round and now until after Christmas the rates are pretty good . I found that February and March get a little slower but sometimes you can snag a good paying load.
I have been tempted to lease on with a carrier like FCC just for the consistency of work , get paid less per mile but no headaches finding loads , I just like my indepence. I don't think anytime is better or worse for starting ,no one can predict the future. I started with the company I was working for as a company driver so I had the work . They were not impressed at first and tried not to use me but then they got swamped and had to, I have since left there.Rideandrepair, Opendeckin, zinita17601 and 2 others Thank this. -
Dont buy a crappy truck though, you will think your saving money but you'll be shooting yourself in the foot. You can find really sharp trucks that are good and you can find really sharp trucks that are junk. Spend 15k on a truck and you could be dropping a motor or transmission in 3 months. I know sometimes it is a crapshoot and you could spend 40 on a truck and be in the same boat, just take your time, dont get in a hurry and check every detail you can in the truck. I bought cheap and I haven't lost anything big yet but the truck has been nickel and diming me to death.

Just do it when you are ready. Out of debt, lots of cash piled up and low monthly overhead on the personal side.
