Well, Swift does seem to be shorting more and more on miles lately.

I just got off my mentors truck this week. The past several loads have been averaging close to 10% short on miles driven vs. miles paid. Not all of them, but nearly. That really adds up with 1000+ mile runs.

Still, I doubt many companies are not trying to save a few bucks right now by doing the exact same thing.

Overall I am happy working for Swift. Hopefully I'll feel the same way a year from now. My mentor has been with with Swift for 6 years, and he has no plans to leave. He is thinking of going O/O soon, but will stay with Swift. I guess that says something.

He has complained to his DM about the mileage discrepancies, and they have adjusted it in his favor (sometimes). So if you see your miles paid are too far off from your actual miles, it never hurts to talk to your DM about it. 30 or 40 miles may not be a biggie, but when it gets into the over 100 mile range he said something - and usually got it adjusted.

10 percent less miles paid is the (norm) for all companys theres nothing new here it was that way back in the 90's and won't change unless you work for a company that pays practical miles, then you will get less miles per trip and per week, theres 3 or 4 companys that pay practical and they average 2 or 300 miles per trip, the best thing you can do is fined the shortest route but also balance it with the extra time it will take you to get there, this is why paper logs are best, do not use real mileage on the dash, use the loaded trip miles and empty miles givin for the load, shaving the time on your log book so you have more time to drive and make more, this is why old timers and me don't want those e-logs

that is why you write EVERYTHING down on a PrePlan and load dispatch. You get a load from A to B that pays 500 loaded miles......3 mo. later, you get the exact same load, and it pays 475...thats when you say, "hey, i had this same load 3 mo ago, and it paid 500...and that load number was XX12345. Put 500 for paid miles, and i'll take the load".

(actually i'd probably take the load anyway, and get my DM to tack on the 25 mi they're "short".)

My mentor was told "we don't pay you to drive up and down mountains, or around curves."

Biker Dave we are tracked by satellite. Things have to match.

see...that is a load of BULL SHATner. The miles are NOT paid "as the crow flies" (or whatever winged aerial transport you prefer)...the miles are paid zipcode to zipcode. Thats why, if you get stuck with a load you pick up in Memphis terminal, going just down the road, you'll get paid a MILE.

and you are paid the miles thru mountains. the miles come off some computer system that uses Randy McNally miles. I can say that most of the miles are within 5-10%. (miles figured off your FUEL ROUTE, not the route you decide to take....company driver or L/O) and if the miles happen to be greater than 10%, i normally can get them covered with a simple phone call to my DM.

Alot more companies are going to "practical" miles becasue they want to get and keep "decent" drivers only the bottom feeder piece of shizzzzz companies will remain on the BS HHG or shortest route miles. But then again who am i to say i only been doing this a day or two and i get paid ODOMETER miles.

And why are you willing to give up the 5-10%? 150,000 miles a year at 5-10% is 7500-15000 miles dang sounds to me like you're doin alot of workin for FREE.... ENJOY company shill...LOL
