There is actually MUCH more to the setup than just 13'6" height and 53' long that will affect your routes. What did you have your road preferences on? What did you have for width and length? Was your Hazmat on "none?" Did you have 53' trailer with a checkmark in the box and "Override Restrictions" with NO check? Did you save the profile and give it a specific name or is it still called "default?"

Also, PCM has a 7" unit in test phase right now - due out in summer.

 

I have a Garmin 7200 StreetPilot that I bought several years ago for $1,000. It was worth every penny and it too has the 7" screen which is great for watching DVD's, when your stuck in line waiting. Because I am still satisfied with it's performance, I am reluctant to give it up for the Nuvi 465T, although if it performs to the claims made, it will be tempting. Is there a possibility of a map upgrade to bring it up to the capability of the Nuvi's truck routing.

I would like to add a comment about high-end units. I truly believe that you get what you pay for. BUT, I would advise you drivers to do your homework before laying out those big bucks. I bought a Magellan Roadmate and paid a little over $900 for it. That was the crappiest GPS imaginable. It would just crash at the worst times; it once directed me to exit the freeway, then get back on in the opposite direction, ten miles later, told me to exit and then enter again in the opposite direction again, and then directed me to get off on the same ramp as before and to get back on. It was my first navigator. It was not until I got my 7200 that I appreciated just how inadequate the Magellan was.

 

Garmin states that the 465T will include their typical ability to upgrade the maps via their web site as is their policy on most of their other units. There will very likely be the associated "upgrade fee" too. However, they have not stated whether those truck route maps will be available to load on to units OTHER than the 465T yet. It will be very interesting to see how that turns out becasue so many drivers already have other Garmins in use out there. I'll update as I hear more.

 

Projected release date is still in 2 weeks according to latest word from them. It looks like T/A will have them first as far as initial availability. As with anything of this nature it is subject to change, but that's the latest that I have heard.

Stick with Garmin, folks. Best product out there. All other stuff is nothing compared to Garmin. I'd wait to buy the Nuvi 465T, which should be out any time now.

My first GPS was a Magellan Roadmate. Paid about $900 and it was a piece of junk. Then I got a Garmin 7200 StreetPilot about 3 years ago and it is GREAT, I've never regretted it. As for customer service. I had my 7200 for all of ten days when I dropped it and broke the touch-screen. Talk about being bummed out!! I called customer service to see what could be done. The lady looked at her computer and said, "Wow, you've only had it for ten days!" Now get this: She sent me a brand new 7200 StreetPilot for $175!!! She did it like it was just the thing to do!! From that day on I was sold on Garmin. Performance AND service, what more could you ask for? By the way, at that time the Garmin 7200 sold for $1,200 (I got it on sale for $1,000). Just wanted to get that $175 into context.
