Can any of you guys tell me if it is worth running Highway 25 from Newport to Asheville instead of going up I-81 to I-26 or I-77 ?
I'll be going from west Tennessee to eastern NC and I've never run 25, but my atlas shows it to be a truck route.
Any help is appreciated.

You'll have to run through mountains and tight and windy roads taking 25. It's really not a truck route in my opinion. Take 81 to 26 and be done with it.

As someone that lives in the area -- they have signs all over I-26 from Asheville to US25 to NOT TAKE US25 TO NEWPORT if you're in a semi truck. Time-wise you're better off on the interstate, anyway, especially if you don't know 'know' the road.
Beyond that, it's technically restricted to trailers over 48' from NC 213 to TN Line.ElmerFudpucker, hope not dumb twucker, 86scotty and 4 others Thank this. -
Yep, same. ^^^^
Take 26. It's open and no delay usually, just slow and hilly and sucks if you're heavy.
It also happens to be the prettiest stretch of interstate in the eastern U.S. but I live here and I'm biased maybe. -
Don’t do it
