I agree the egr detroits are crap and gutless for sure.I have a friend that had a 2005 14ltr detroit set at 515hp and he always had problems keeping up with my 2000 detroit 430/470.That always pissed him off.
The egr detroit also do not get as good mpg as pre egr.
Got a Cat thread how about a Detroit thread.

this is all fine and good. but if I want to read about CAT power there is 50 other threads. Trust me, I'm a cat guy from way back.
Also we all know the egr motors are not as good as the pre egr motors but yet here we are and this is what we have these days.
I thought this was supposed to be a thread about getting more horsepower out of detroits, not what's better then detroitstesla4all Thanks this. -
If so then what would I need?
I can't believe nobody has come up with a dummy EGR unit yet. I'm still trying to figure this whole thing out as it's all new to me but I know when the EGR opens up I can feel myself leaning forward due to the power loss. -

PP has parts for DD engines so does PDI, cams, turbo, exaust manifolds, the fluid damper you will need if you want to make more power. This because of increased vibration in crank. Have even heard of a few cats breaking cranks after mods. PDI also has custom programed ECM's and add on boxes like the PP unit. You could get on auction sites and look for marine Detroits for sale in the HP you desire. Get the serial number and go right to Detroit. Tell them you are working on a boat. This is very important as they will not sell marine parts for trucks. Get cam, turbo, ECM. Pull exaust and intake manifold, polish out. Voila, instant bad-attitude Detroit. Again, do not neglect to get the fluid balancer.

Also I don't know how much cleaning up and polishing the inside of the intake manifold will help.I talked with Bruce at PP and he didn't seem to think that messing with the intake manifold would make much of a diffrence if any at all. -
DD14 hasn't been on since may. I checked
Polishing is always more valuable on the exhaust side. Wbuilding hot rods I would port out intakes but not fully polish them. Your biggest gains are from port and polish the exhaust and port match (including the gasket, which usually is smaller then the port)
I've emailed PDI to see what the HP rating of each of there thre stages of ECM's are. and to see if they are all three compatable with stock motors or at which point do we need to start throwing parts at it.
I'm on a quest to do away with this EGR. so if anyone has information on that please send me a link to the info or the info itself. I can't believe how much power this truck looses when the EGR opens. it feels like every bit of 50hp, if not more. TOday I was cruising along empty in the rain going up a hill, the egr opened and I compensated with a little more throttle. Then when the EGR closed again it was enough to break traction and spin the tires. I wasn't happy and don't want to know what winter is going to bring. I guess I'll get used to it but personally i'd rater not -
I wonder if you could block off the egr and the lines and tubes going to it and hang a DDEC IV ecm on it and get it to run right.
Or to make it look like the egr is still doing its job(hanging there) buy gutting out a used egr valve and pluging it up internally and bolting it back on then insert some plugs in the lines or tubes(which ever it has) so it would appear to be all hooked up. -
this is what I'm out to find out. I want it to look original but to not be working.
I thought I read that the cummins diesel pickup truck guys are doing it. I'm amazed nobody has done it for trucks yet.
I don't have enough knowledge of the system yet to mess with it too much myself but I'm going to talk to some people who do and see what can come up with.
if the PP box can keep it closed then there is a way for me to do it without freaking out the computer.
