The problem I see here is there are too many variables. The auctioneer? Is he owning the truck and paying you 5k just to drive it? IE your a company driver to him. If your the owner operator and going it on your rig I would say run away now. Last time I drove from Maine to California in a personal vehilce it was around 3700 miles one way. At 5k pay round trip you may as well drive for a bottom feeder company.
There is a local up here whom hauls cars for auctions and he gets $6 a mile. His average load is 6 cars in a 53 foot trailer, Just something to think about.
Got a job offer.....

lovesthedrive, that is awesome I have not considered that.
That would be a form of taking advantage against Girl and company I would think. that's not right.
Your reference to a box trailer with 5 or 6 cars inside takes me way back to the early 80's where they used to put about that many small cars in a big rack and slide it all right into a van trailer. Boom loaded. Get going. It's pretty cool to watch if you have not seen that kind of loading.Wargames, Gatorgrl and lovesthedrive Thank this. -
Interesting way to do it if the whole load goes to one spot. Yet alot of people dont live in one spot. So they would have to load it, first on is last off. Otherwise it is like shuffling cards. Everytime you unload, some of the other cars would havee to come out before the one to deliver. Tho that could be part of the headache from the auctioneer. He wants you to get other stuff that we wants you to sell. Reducing his overhead.
On a 3700 mile one way. That is 7400 miles round trip. The auctioneer is only paying 5 grand? Your getting paid $1.48 a mile. That is ok money only IF he pays the expenses. More than likely he isnt. As well as he didnt bother to work on the actual cost of deliveryLast edited: Oct 25, 2018
4mer trucker and Gatorgrl Thank this. -
Run away from it. $5k is nothing, there is no return revenue nor is it really worth it.
Let me give you a real hint on how classic car stuff works, the owner of that 1939 Caddy who just spent $80k on getting the car plus a buyer's premium isn't going to care how much it costs but wants a company like Horseless Carriage or Reliable Movers to move that car for him. Those are all well know pros in the world of classic cars, have good reputations and deliver on time for a price.lovesthedrive, Gatorgrl and OldeSkool Thank this. -
150 mph pulling a trailer. You have some imagination.4mer trucker and lovesthedrive Thank this.

Maybe he is refferring to what it would take to get it there in that amount of time?
-
Wouldn't that be .67 cpm on the 7400 mile trip Willy?lovesthedrive Thanks this.
-
No, sadly, he's not.....lol.

That's true. They are stacked around the auctions, but you can get car hauls from exotic dealers. I used to pull a 48 trailer with a 99 Powerstroke for $1.00 a mile. Only advantage I offered was faster time and no stacking. I could get in a few places they couldn't go. Getting backhauls was the real problem.Gatorgrl and lovesthedrive Thank this.
