I've already spoken to an attorney about doing just that. I can't afford $3,500 for a 'maybe'. As far as what my felony was, I keep my dirty laundry at home...sorry. I don't even like to mention I ever had one but, sometimes it's to my benefit to say so. My wife is now leaning heavily towards taking the job. We will probably break even on the pay but the experience is priceless...so long as other companies recognize Carolina Cargo. I have a few more questions to ask them before I make my decision, though. I need to know how and when they pay, first of all. I hear so many horror stories from other truckers about how they got screwed on their pay because the company made them pay for orientation or because they went over their allotted fuel amount per trip. I find that one to be illegal. I won't sign anything agreeing to that either. Who knows what traffic we may get caught in increasing idle time, detours, etc. #### that!

I've got a question too. Do you really think you're going to get hired to a decent company by filing an application on-line with a (just one) felony? Your application goes right into the round file.

Are you sure about the companies only considering the time since your probation ended? I'm not experienced with felonies, but it seems I remember that they always ask date of conviction. If that were the case then I think you need not mention it at all for companies that are only concerned with the past 10 years.

Also remember this: There are something like 400,000+ trucking companies in the U.S. a lot of good ones don't even know the internet exists. Get a phone book, look up some addresses and start to knock on some doors. If you can present yourself as a clean-cut, hard working family guy, you may be surprised at what you can get.

It's easy to sit in front of the computer and bemoaning your bad luck with no responses. You got yourself into a mess with your past actions. Now you will need to work twice as hard to put it behind you. That means hitting the bricks, being creative, persistent and putting yourself in the best light possible. It is a lot easier to say "no" to a computer applicant , than it is to one standing in front of you.

I've had a lot of people say that I should do door knocking but it isn't that simple. First, I live in Delaware. We have no terminals here to knock on. Plus, that requires fuel to go to them. I'm currently unemployed which means I have no money for fuel to go to these places, if I could. All I can do is apply by computer or call, which I do. 99% of all calls I make end up going straight to voicemail. Then I never get a call back.

That's about all I can do. I make calls but get voicemail and no return calls. Delaware has no terminals to go to.

Really? No trucking companies in the entire state?
Here's a 1000 or so to get you started: https://maps.google.com/maps?ie=UTF...aware&ei=crFYUoOGNsPmyQGhwIGIBw&ved=0CNQBEMgT

How do you afford internet access and other "necessities"? How about getting a job at McDonalds or sweeping floors, or whatever to pay for gas to look for and get to get a better job? If driving is what you want to do you will do anything (within the law) to make that happen. Take a night/weekend job to fund your gas for the job hunt. You are in a densly populated area. Convenience stores/ 24hr fast food joints are always looking for night shift help.

Hogwash. All you are doing is making excuses. Excuses are for losers who are looking for a way to say "I've done everything I can" even though they haven't even scratched the surface. Sorry to be harsh, but you need to work hard to get what you want. If you can't do more than you are, then you aren't truck driver material anyway.

Wow, some of you are really harsh. You don't my situation at all. My wife works 2 jobs but what she makes just covers the bills.

Anyway, got a call from good ol' Carolina Cargo today. Fourth call from them. I'm in! Got to be there on November 18 for orientation. Finally! I know its a crap company but, hey, got to start somewhere to pay my dues. At least I'm employed.

Use the republican route and work another unrelated job while you find a trucking job you want. If no one will hire you, get a few books to learn new skills.
