The heavy road use tax or 2290 is $550 a year. They may save another 3 or 400 on tags, but I bet they don’t save more than a 1000-1200 total a year. They could tag it all the way to 69,000 if you are running a 12k steer and 23k rear.prostartom Thanks this.
-
You can if you’re tagged for 80K and pulling pups with it. Then you’ll have 5 axles.Speedy356 Thanks this.
-
But they aren’t going to allow 38,000 on a single axle. That’s what I was saying.Speedy356 Thanks this.
-
That I didn’t know, but it looks like you’re right.
Too bad it doesn’t do me any good because my truck is tagged for 80K
Yeah, that much on one is insane. I’ve never seen seen a single screw with the total the drive and steer ratings that high.bumper Jack Thanks this. -
You took the chance with the knowledge it was possible to be over, that's your responsibility. Especially whenpassing multiple places with scales, that's just blatant negligence and irresponsiblity. Truck weights on a build sheet are dry weights with little fuel, and other accessories that may be added later. A practice I have is to know the weight of what I'm driving fully laden with all fluids or a base number and room for error. Not difficult to find or figure with all the handheld tech at our disposal these days.

There is some guy on here telling me 38,000 pound single axles are common place in Texas. I have a hard time believing that. He said they get an intrastate exemption. Hell if I know, but I know they are a 20,000 pound state according to Randy Mac. I also don’t know how they scale that running the 16ply 11r22.5 rubber he claims. They would only be rated at 6600 pound each. Which only comes up to 26,400.
But hey! Everything is bigger in Texas! -
I don’t think you’ll get any sort of deal with the judge unless you already had some sort of deal with them before the court day. A lawyer might be able to negotiate a lower fine but what you’ll end up paying him I doubt it’ll be cheaper. Honestly you’re going to have to eat the fine and move on. Call it an expensive lesson. I visit Hazleton a few times a month I’m pretty sure there’s a “Fuel On” truck plaza right before you hit the interstate. I’m probably not the first and won’t be the last to tell you that you should be scaling any loads that you’re not 100% sure with. That and your company needs to stop playing with fire and get an actual twin screw tractor to pull Amazon loads.
Speedy356, bentstrider83 and bumper Jack Thank this. -
i'm very sorry to differ with you Sir, but VERY BAAAAAAD advice IMO. This very scale in particular, and i pass it occasionally, DOES INDEED have chase cars. Chase Tahoes to be specific, with the 6.2 litre engine; You're not going to get away from it, much less with a 80,000 lbs tractor trailer..........
Now, i HAVE blown scales before unintentionally and they didn't chase.alds Thanks this. -
people don’t realize that voice that comes on after you ask if the “scales are closed” sometimes is the Scale house or someone with evil intentions.
Also forgot, they also play dead too.
