Not much of that to deal with pulling flatbed or tankers. Chemical plants I've dealt with have some pretty sharp people working there. Flatbed is good also other than union steel plants. Flatbed the shipper loads and the receiver unloads. Receivers are glad to see you; never had a problem with flatbed receivers.NavigatorWife Thanks this.

its amazing that this is what most call "safety awareness", a bunch of non-related rules designed, NOT FOR SAFETY, but the appearance of safetyChinatown Thanks this.

Easy now, Generic, he's just ribbin' ya(I hope). Gettin' back to the original point, I've delivered to a million and 6 places, and these are just regular people, and who knows what goes on. Forklift operators are usually at the bottom of the chute, and get poop from Mr. (or Ms.) Bigshot and are usually ready to blow some steam off where ever they can. Be nice to them, it goes a long way, trust me. I've had great experiences at delivery places. I always judged a company by their break room. Nice break room, nice company, and visa versa. A pizza mfr. in Ky. once the guy on the forklift said, you like pizza? Sure, I said. He said, it's gonna be a while, go have some pizza. In the break room was a table with all kinds of pizza. Entemann's in Chicago too(out of business, I think) breakroom FULL of desserts. It's all about attitude!Last edited by a moderator: May 30, 2014

I think I have this juvenile mess cleaned up, so I'll open it back up and we can try it again. But, let's knock it off with the bickering and insults, please. A couple of you will have private messages.

One thing I always bear in mind when dealing with any customer is that the folks that work at the guard shack or in the warehouse are probably working at the ONLY facility in the shipping industry that they've ever worked at. From their perspective they can't understand why truckers don't automatically know their idiosyncratic rules and procedures because they think EVERY facility does it like they do.
From OUR perspective we've been to thousands of different places and they all have a little different way of doing things. Even if I've been to a place before (or seem to think I have....
) I always say, "This is my first time here, why don't you tell me where I need to go and where to put the trailer?"

I think the pricks like to test you sometimes, too.
I arrived @ Hershey's in Pennsylvania, and the guard told me to ask the shipping personnel where the free samples were so I could get a few bars but not to mention that he told me to ask.
I took that as a sign that it would probably be best not to pester them about it. Otherwise, why tell me not to mention him?
So I kept my mouth shut, got my load picked up and finished the paperwork. As I was signing for the bills, one of the shipping guys handed me a case of Kit Kat.
Super cool of them. It worked out great for me, because I was driving for CRE at the time & those Kit Kats were my meals more often than I'd like to admit!Lepton1, NavigatorWife, "semi" retired and 1 other person Thank this. -
Hi Stile, yep, one of the perks of the job. I used to pick up at Tootsie Roll just outside of Chicago, same thing, break room had bins of tootsie rolls, "help yourself" the guy said. Kwik Trip in LaCrosse, Wis. too, left there with a pile of donuts once. But Lepton made some good points, these people have a small world, compared to us, and probably have no idea what we do.NavigatorWife Thanks this.
