Mototom is correct. The systems can recognize stop signs, red lights, even speed limit signs.
They save 10 seconds before through 10 seconds after the event.
The camera is always recording, but only the events are saved in a separate storage area until they are uploaded.
But there is probably enough storage in the camera to have many hours saved before the oldest is overwritten.
A camera I used to have could store around 8 hours of HD video in 15 second clips. Once the drive is full the oldest is overwritten by the newest so there is always 8 hours of the most recent footage.
I have seen videos of drivers watching videos on their tablet or laptop while driving. Those were not saved events I'm sure; the bosses went in to the saved footage after the fact to find it. One guy thought he was being slick, but the camera caught the reflection on the windshield when the driver would watch videos while driving at night.

Oh and on the rolling through STOP signs. Reminds me of the old joke when the OP says. "But I slowed down and looked." Like slow and stop are the same thing. The cop is hitting you with his night stick. Do you want him to slow down or stop?
The OP proves the Megas point of why they want these nanny systems. So they can get rid of drivers with no common sense.merv85 Thanks this. -
I don’t get all freaked out about some guy checking his gps (hell I do it) or changing Spotify. Realistically there’s other things people do that are worse but don’t have the stigma attached.
however watching videos, texting, or playing candy crush are a whole different ballgame because it takes the majority of attention.merv85 Thanks this. -
This is the flaw in those systems and why they will always give incorrect feedback that has to be sorted through.merv85 Thanks this.
