And what do you own now? I've driven a few ISX.. better jake than CAT.. not smoother than an ACERT.. about equal in terms of hill climbing torq. CAT and Cummins are probably the only 2 engines I will ever own. That said... I recently had some heavy haul experience running a 2012 Coronado SD with a very under rated 600hp DD16. I routinly hauled 140 - 165k gross. That truck would have no trouble yanking the front wheels off the ground pulling a load. Most obscene amount of torq of any thing I've ever driven. I've got 500hp and 1875 trq in my truck. Used to think I had a pretty stout motor till I ran that truck for a month. How ever.. had some vibration issues between 1400 - 1500 rpm. Sucked down fuel like a new starlet on a casting couch. None of the 475 - 525hp ISX I ran ever got over 6 mpg unless it was a very light load. My truck started out rough at 4.5 - maybe 5 mpg on a good day. Now I see 5.8 mpg as a low pulling heavy with 6.2 - 6.5 mpg regularly. I have 150 gal tanks.. used to start looking for fuel after 800 mi. Now its nothing to look down and see 1000 - 1100 mi on the odometer and still be above 1/4 tank. Not as good as the newer Cummins or Detroits... but for a motor that will see 1million plus mi in between major mechanical repairs.. I am very happy with it. Hurst
None of the maxxforce engines had def. Navistar had to hire Cummins to show them how and help them design a system. That's why you can get Cummins in a Barnyard Buick
Not currently a truck owner, but I plan to change that next year. Leaning toward Western Star and DD16 @560 or 600, but depends on what I decide to do work-wise. I had really good luck with the old 60 series in the 90s and early 2000s. That said, I also like Peterbilt and my kid has had really good luck with the Paccar MX he drives. Soooo....
