got left by trainer in truck stop

Thanks for the laugh because I am irritated sitting at Tyson!

 

Not to make an excuse or defend trainers that forget to check if the student is in the truck, but many trainers are over tired and not getting enough sleep. Seems to be the #1 reason trainers quit being a trainer. Usually student gets lost, has questions, needs help finding a customer, or help backing up. Some times the trainer gets 2 hour nap twice a day when in full swing team mode, so just imagine how over tired they are, and might forget to look if the student is still in the truck. I know there is no excuse, but still trying to shed some light on the trainers perspective.

 

Part of the problem is companies send "safty updates" that are not time critical. A lot of times we assume the msg isn't important. I got 6 msgs reminding me about daylight savings. I got 4 yesterday about doing better pretrips...and 6 today saying were all doing better keep upo the good work. Unless im on the highway, i ignore the msg. If its important they will call.

 

When I was being trained! we were told if we got out of the truck to put the QC on the drivers seat, just to remind them we had stepped out... Just a thought for anyone reading this... And to echo the above comment... Get another trainer!!

 

The pillow in the driver's seat was always enough when I ran a team operation. Communication is a wonderful thing......

both of you messed up she should've checked...but when you STARTED to get tired , THEN was the time to wake her up and inform her that you were tired and needed a break. She then had the option of driving herself or going back to sleep....not a good idea to push yourself to that point...that's when people get killed.....just saying.

 

I know it,a few times one of my trainers forgot to check to see if I was in the back till hrs later.Trainers should make it a strict rule to tell trainees from the get go to not just wonder off until you tell trainer first.

 

I think you have it backwards. The trainer should have a strict rule of knowing where the student is at all times. After all, that is the job they are getting paid for and supposedly have the experience to be aware of possible situations. The student couldn't inform the trainer of anything since she had already "wondered" off.

The leader is responsible for the operation just as a squad leader is responsible for his troops.

 

No excuse for the trainer/s here from me......their job is to TRAIN...to use our beloved president's favorite line.... PERIOD. If a student gets lost the trainer is there to help...Period , if the student has questions the trainer is there to answer them...Period , if the student needs help finding a customer that it's the trainers obligation to help the student find the customer...PERIOD , when the student needs a spotter then the trainer steps-up to do that....PERIOD

This where the problem is.....Companies are using students as pack-horses and letting the trainers use them as mules...using them to move freight as fast as possible...PERIOD. Here is where student must stand -up and tell these emplyers that the trainer is there to train them , the student is not there to make this into a "team" operation. This is just a recipe for disaster , and needs to be stopped.
