Hell, it's been so long I don't know if I could even double clutch myself, and I've been out here over 16 years. Matter of fact, I don't believe I ever did DC outside of the one time my old boss taught me how to.[/QUOTE]

Whats the new pretrip -
I don't think the people that test really get stuck on double clutching. As long as you can shift smoothly and are in control of the gears that is what they are looking at. I did not go through a driving school I just challenged the road test and passed. The person testing me noticed a few blocks away that I was not double clutching. She asked if I could and I told her I was taught to float and really didn't know how to double clutch. I then stated from a mechanics point of view every time I step on the clutch I am wearing it out. She said she had never thaught about that and said carry on the way you are comfortable and passed me.

My school taught us to drive a manual and after we was done with the trainer they put us in an automatic with the option of manual mode. From what I know then some companies are switching to automatics because they're more fuel efficient.(you can be just as fuel efficient or more in a manual but you need to know when and how to shift.)

I just took the CA CDL test in Feb, and while I could do both, and often "hybrid" my downshifts (stab clutch to get neutral, float into lower gear) when I asked the examiner on the drive test what he expected, his exact words were "Just don't hit anything." Well, uh . . . OK.

Wait..which one is the clutch? On a serious note, I have no clue how to double clutch, that was always the rumor around here, that you have to double clutch for the Illinois test. I asked the instructor, and she replied with "whatever is most comfortable for you."
