Good to hear. Let me know how things go on the job front. You drive down everyday? I'm not looking forward to that, but guess it'll give me more wheel time :biggrin_25518:. I have orientation on the 12th so if you have a chance stop by and say HI.

Orientation is real straightforward. They review your paperwork, go over some school information, and send you off for a drug test. The daily drive isn't bad. The early start gets us over there before most traffic is on the road, though there isn't much school traffic right now. The drive does give you time to think through and practice a few things like stopping behind stop lines, canceling your turn signal, and using your mirrors. The days are long, but these are the kind of hours that come with trucking, so it's all part of the education. Let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help. I think you made a good choice going with JCC.

Are you going through a company school or other? Do you have a job lined up yet? This site has answered a lot of questions for me as to who not to work for, but since I'll be getting out of school close to November, I wonder what the job market will be.

just one train of thought for you just coming out of school or just starting ..... do your home work on companys they lie they are worst than the miltary use to be they all do it . they will promis you the world (it so great ,were the best , paperless logs , your going to make all kinds of money , we;ll get you home every week or two or three ,four when ever you need to be there ) once they have you you'll never see that guy again he did his part . so think about who your going to work for very hard (very) look at safty reports go to some truck stops an talk to some fellow trucker's in the restruants over coffee . do your home work before you take the plunge

My thoughts at this time are that I'm going to spend the next year (or a little more with school) of my life training and working. After owning my own business for over 10 years, working 6+ days a week for myself, I don't think it wil be a big problem. I see it as a learning experience. I'm not real worried about the money and at my age, I've found that a year can slip by pretty fast. Boy, to have back those days when I was in my 20s and a month took forever! I've had to deal with a lot of "salesmen" in my life so I realize to take recruiters with a grain of salt. Thanks for the advice!

I'm studying my CDL manual so I can get my CDL-A learner permit. I know which sections I have to study.
My question is about the General Knowledge part of the exam. Will they get into detail on questions about the pre trip inspection (naming the part and explaining what damage or problems you might find with the part) or will they wait until road skills exam?...Thanks

There were no questions much about parts except possibly he obvious ones like the steering wheel. The test is pretty easy, but I can only speak for myself. If you searh around you can find some sites that have practice tests (Don't even bother to pay for them, just do the samples). The practice test questions are very similar (ie the same) as ones you'll find on the actual test. Let me know if you need more as some company sent me a practice test.
