Look at your ticket, I believe, in a commercial vehicle, it is a must appear. I had a co-worker, got a ticket from a Campus Officer. He went to court. The judge called him up, "How do you plea, sir", he said," Not guilty". He said" Your Honor, My last ticket was in 1981, and the one before that was in 1969". Judge told him "Go sit down, and Ill call you later". The judge talked with the D.A, and called him back up. Judge: " Sir,I'm making this a seat-belt violation". With that many years driving and no other tickets than that, Case dismissed. He had to pay a court cost.
You go into that court room , and let them know, how good your driving record had been for 29 years, and make sure you tell the judge,"29 years" and you`ll get off.

Um, that's your clue that it CAN be fought and dismissed. Cops lie just like the rest of us when it suits their purpose.

My ticket was also a "must appear " . It was settled without me going to court .

I would fight it. But be careful, when it rains, it pours. :)

I went 12 years with out one, then bam, bam in one month. I was warned in orientation NE and IA was watching our company. They weren't lying as one ticket was NE and the other was IA. :)

It doesn't matter how good a driver one is. You drive a million miles or more, something is bound to happen somewhere, somehow. Anyone that claims to be a perfect angel is a liar! :) To err is human.

I had slept in Birmingham so it was not the fact i was too tired to know what i was doing.6 hours from Birmingham to the yard.

This is not a mandatory appear ticket but it does have a court date.
I think i will find a lawyer in that town and talk it over with them.
Or at least appear on it and see what happens.

It says right on the ticket if you pay the fine it will be turned into your home state so it can go on my record.

This was a small town city cop working the big road.
The first thing i'll do is call the clerk of court in that town and see if anything can be done to keep it off my record.

    Thanks for the tips guys!

I know this will get all the lawyer types out of the wood work but here we go. Did you admit to the cop you were speeding? did you acknowledged you did anything wrong during the stop? did you apologize during the stop? If you did be prepared for the cop to bring it up in court as an admission of guilt.

Normally in SC, if the Officer reduces the ticket on the spot, It cannot be reduced or changed to anything else. Small towns or counties in that state are working areas like that purely for financial gain like most other states. What ever you do don't accept a careless driving ticket option thats popular there. Careless is a local ordinance ticket that does not show points on your license, but is usually taken more like a reckless driving ticket with your insurance company. In addition, If you do attend court and plea "not guilty", the officer can elect to make a motion to re-instate the original speed that he initially stopped you for. My suggestion would be to at least attend court to see if the officer appears and if he does, talk to him/her to see if there are any alternatives. I would also (if I had to report the ticket to my company) find out for sure how the company views the charge of careless driving or careless operation in some areas, is viewed by the company. Hope this helps. Oh almost forgot, If all else fails, you can request a trial by a jury on the charge which would give you about a year or so before the trial date comes up. Anything could happen during that time, Officer fired, quit, ect......

I was in the car with my buddy in Illinois when he got a ticket for 102 in a 65 on I70 east of Effingham. I had my pistol on me too so I thought for sure I was going back to the Graybar Hotel.

This was in a car, not a CMV, but the cop didnt take his license.
