This is a lesson learned the hard way. Screw giving a two weeks notice man, that's some old formality of days long past. Every single time I've given a 2 weeks notice, they fired me right away. You could collect unemployment for those two weeks, minus the one week waiting period. This is extremely common in all employment settings actually.

I read this forum and see comments all the time about back in the good old days. If things were better back in the good old days it was because people held themselves to a higher standard. Give a two weeks notice. It is a courtesy on your part. It they decide to accept it immediately that's on them. You had courtesy and class and they didn't.

All these greedy companies are selfish and worthless I wish they would all go under for the way they treat and rob people I worked for Alan ritchey inc hauling crude oil and we were bought out by Kimrad Alan ritchey gave us a 800 dollar safety bonus well brad the owner of Kimrad sit down with all of us and told us all nothing would change and everything would sty the same well about 3 months into it he started yanking our bonuses for all kinds of reasons I just find it humorous of people like him cause he used to be a trucker I guess some people forget where they come from and I have learned most companies don't give a crap about u no matter what u do no matter how great of a trucker u are ur replaceable they may lose load counts but it's all a numbers game to them

I always tried to give a notice. When I did leave I cleaned my tractor out and got all the trash out of it. I was not doing this for the company but trying to be sensitive for the next driver. I have read all of the comments so far and what makes me sad is both the carriers AND the drivers seem to no longer have any respect for each other. I have seen drivers just up and quit and fleet managers begging them to accept a hot load that needed to go 5 minutes ago. I have also seen fleet managers screw drivers over just because they can. I have always been of the opinion that good customer service is what we in this industry should be about. Dependable on time pickups and deliveries. I guess I am just a throw back from another era but what I see today coming from both the carriers and the drivers makes me sick.

Many companies will let employees go on the same day that they give notice. Especially those employees that don't perform an essential task that requires a replacement worker to be trained before they can step into the position.

when I put in a notice, they always keep me on for the duration,,, despite all my subtle hints that it's cool if they cut me loose pronto .. Yer lucky man! Enjoy it!

It's good to give a notice because in most cases they will let you come back if you needed to. Theres a few places I didn't give a notice to and I tried going back and they put me on a ineligible for rehire list because of it. So keep that in mind before walking off the job. ..But it's not uncommon for LTL and Gasoline contractors to walk you out the door when you hand them the notice.. it don't mean you fired, or can't come back. They just wanna make sure the quality of work performance for each person on duty is at its best. Often times, the quality of work declines when one someone is leaving a job because the don't care anymore..so they would rather not have you out there paying you to slug around.

I know someone that this exact same issue happened. But she was moving out of state. So when she went to collect unemployment, first they said no cuz she gave noticed to quit. BUT,....after she said that she did give the company a two week notice and the company told her not to worry just leave now, the unemployment office now said she "WAS" entitled to unemployment benefits and her previous employer would have to pay a percentage of those benefits to her cause they terminated her without cause.

I have extreme sympathy for anyone who HAS to work retail to make a living. I know it is an old saying with working retail, you either LOVE it or you HATE it, there is no middle road there.
I hated it when I was in it.
