I am happy with the rates I get. I still drive slow, 58 to 62, to maximize the money I make. If the load I accept is a hot load I will drive faster if I need to, but it better be paying very very good for me to spend the extra on fuel, or heading to a place I want to go. Like home.

Driving 70+ mph will allow me to get to my customers faster and I may or may not get an extra load in every week or 2 weeks. But, driving slower and managing my fuel will make me more money every time. Last week I ran 2 loads. 2400 miles total and I brought home $3700 after all of my expenses except taxes. I am happy with that.

For me it's about working smarter, not harder.

My loads require scheduled off loads to get cranes or lifts onsite. My appt times are fixed usually. Running faster means more sitting usually.

Not to be a pain but I have done my real world testing with my varying loads over the a two week period one I ran no wore than 65 the other was 72 over the course of these weeks I truly saw no difference in fuel consumption each fuel up was 5.3-5.6 and the two week totals had both at 5.4.(though the math not computer) the difference was mainly on the weeks I ran 72 I was able run one last short run Shoals, IN to Indy and that one paid my cut 350 for 90mile so I saw extra pay not much fuel savings. Granted it can't be tested by me because I don't run the same week to week or day to day I don't fill every load just when I need it but its real world from pulling different products to different places. All 4 week I was in the same general areas and ran 2100 to 2500 all four weeks. so I don't know how to justify staying at 65.

All I am saying is that in most trucking applications (non dedicated/mixed loaded) there are to many other factors that come in to play to see that much of a difference just by slowing down a bit. Terrain, weight, temps, gearing, winds. ect.. Can't really say driver as its the same.

I do know Have pulled the same load out of shoals going to St Louis and I fueled up at evensville reset the competer and once at 69 avg 5.6 and once 65 avg 5.4.
now according to everyone it should have been the other way around I can only guess that the temp and wind had a lot to do with this the 65 day was colder 8* to be exact and had a bit more wind. My boost gauge stayed pretty stead about 2PSI above the 69mph run.
I know the computer is not 100% accurate but it is 90% of the time 1/10 above what is showed after filling up and doing the math. So in reality it was probably 5.5 and 5.3

This thread has guys calling the slower drivers idiots, faster drivers calling slower drivers idiots. Me, I could care less what speed someone drives, as long as you do it safe. The "idiot" was just my way of laughing at the others calling names.

The only time I liked running 75mph+ was leaving Denver late at night if I left at 4pm I would gun it to at least lake point Utah seems like when I'm tired and I drove fast I felt aware because of the speed 1 mile in about 30 seconds is fast. But during the day with traffic around id run about 68-70mph because no matter what I always get stuck behind other slower trucks passing slow trucks in the end waste a lot of fuel and average 60mph lol
