I can give you that a bit I know I hit the center as much as I can though there but I see people coming up on me and can I do move over for them and slide back in behind them. It a bit better but still not great though.

We as truckers in places as that dont have much choices we are not allowed in the left and there is a but of a safety issue on going around the right and we are forced to choose because someone cant do the speed limit and many times not even close. Such as a 62 mile truck loaded trying to cilmb the hill into e-town and lossing speed quick they give us four lanes and still trucks wont slide to the right so those that can climb it dont have to wiggle in and out to avoid lossing their speed. I cant even count the times I ran the far right all the way up the hill faster than the trucks in in the 2nd and 3rd lane and it is smootb up that hill. It rough from about 100 to around the 115 but why then between 94 and 99 and 116 all the way into town other than plan and simple not caring about anyone but yourself.
I understand avoiding rough road I spent lots of money this year fixing spring on one truck and after parking it whole new frontend on the other so I to avoid what I can and still be respectful to my fellow truckers. Go as fast or slow as you want just do it in a manner that has the least impact on others.
I ran across 34 in iowa one day onlt vehicles in sight going west was two trucks and me one went to pass the the other I sat behind them doing quite a bit below the speed limit for 15 miles before the one was able to fully pass the other thats ridiculous and uncalled for I went on my way stopped for the night about 15 min later here they came as they drove by the one that passed was less than 1/2 mile ahead 90 miles after I got around them. What was gained?

Exact same trucks no because the one at 75 would be running higher rpms depending on the truck that extra 10mph would add (just guessing) 600-1200 rpms to get to the 75. But if its running at 65 most the time there rpms would match up and when he passed he would up the rpms and there for use more fuel
    Just my thoughts

Just a funny observation. And you answered your own question.

Wont go that far they do it foe their reasons and what they are I dont care its their choice and I dont even mind them getting out and passing another slow mover just when done go back where you should be far right except when passing heck unless it as Roadmedic pointed out avoiding rough road I do even if I know I will have to change again soon. And when I pass its either around in 30 sec or I drop back and wait for a better opportunity.

All I am saying is do what you need/want to do just be somewhat respectful to other. Dont hold everyone up. And I make mistakes miss judge how fast someone is gaining or loss my speed faster than expected every now and then and I try to apologize but most don't hear it since no radio on

The very fact that a gallon of fuel could be so detrimental to the bottom line shows just how screwed up this industry is. How many L/P drivers fill up at the end of a pay period and get a $100 paycheck? I drive and ungoverned truck pulling heavy and sometimes cruise below 65 if time allows. The actual difference in fuel usage is very minimal and I can only average around 560-575 miles in 11 hours. Whereas if I cruise my usual 5 mph over the posted speed limit I can easily cover and additional 100 miles in and 11 hour tour. If as much emphasis were put on driver needs and wages as fuel savings, we could all see a living wage.

Wow you're kidding right? Speed is the largest factor. I've studied this scientifically over several trucks. Over 60 mph you lose .15 MPG per MPH. There's no magical gearing that can make up for that. Running out of the "sweet spot" you'll lose at most 2 tenths.

Um what? Exact same trucks will have exact same rears, tranny and tires. The rpms will be the exact same at any given speed between the two. Rpms have nothing to do with a speed governor.

It's not a "gallon" of fuel. It can easily be 80 gallons a week driving max speed versus 58 to 60. 80 gallons of fuel is $360 a week roughly, not even mentioning the savings on maintenance costs. I like my bottom line just the way it is, I could give a **** about speed.
