If a truck is cruising at 60 mph and it's such a huge problem, there's obviously driving issues. I can't imagine what would happen say if someone was broke down in the granny lane with a closed shoulder.
Also sometimes the slower trucks NEED to move over. Lane closures, accidents, debris in the granny lane, bear with a customer etc.. Again if that is such a huge problem for the cowboys on the forum, it's your driving that's the issue not ours.
Some also need to learn simple math. The faster you go the less MPG you get. If you say "I tried it for one week and I got the same" then your sample size is too small. Even running with a hit of a headwind will change fuel mileage drastically. If you don't believe me, buy the scangauge and calibrate it(not very hard) and you have a very accurate instant MPG readout. You will learn a lot with this tool. Every MPH you go up your MPG goes down. There's no magical "island" where your truck does better. If that was true when you backed off the throttle your truck would speed up, when was the last time that happened on flat ground?tsavory Thanks this. -
That is what I have on the truck, but do not use the instant anymore. I use it to monitor some other items.
I do not care if they drive faster or whatever. It just makes you wonder when the speed limit is 65 and they are tailgating because you are doing 66. If something happens, they are now part of your vehicle. -
I'll try to help you understand. Laws of physics dictate faster equals more fuel. More fuel equals less take home money. The load will pay the exact same if I run 75 or if I run 62. At 62 I get well over 7.5 mpg, at 75 I get under 5.5 mpg. On a light load, running on the flat lands, I have dropped down to 55 to 58 a few times, get over 9 mpg on those trips. The type of loads I haul are usually delivering the next morning, so arriving an hour earlier won't get me unloaded quicker. If you do the math you will see the difference between 7.5 and less than 5.5 on a hundred thousand miles, is about fifteen grand. After taxes it's around 11 grand I get to keep. More money in my pocket instead of out my stacks directly relates to more time spent at home with my family.281ric and Rooster1291979 Thank this.

Have you checked the price of fuel lately?
There's a reason over 90% of the trucks on the road go between 62-65. -
The slowest I can do is 67...anything under that is to slow for my liking
-
So your saying that between 60 and 70 I am losing .75 mpg just lost how with the testing I did over four weeks it came out the exact same each two week period.
BTW one of the best runs mpg I had at any given point in this truck was Lyons ks to bloomington IN all loads of salt 12 pallets and put me weighing at 79300
Ran three times all three fueled in dodge city and again in evensville
1st paid no attention just ran the speed limit (as close as I could hills sucked) 5.4
2nd watched the boost guage close and ran as fast (up to 5 above speed limit) keeping boost below 9 as much as possible. Most of Kansas was 70-73 pretty steadily around 70 and 8 boost Missouri bounced between 63 (lowest I would let it go) 68 Illinois and indiana stayed pretty steady around 64-68 got 6.8 on that one
3rd set cruise at 65 and glided along as steady as I could got 5.5.
Now tell me where this would make sense to you? -
Here it is plain and simple....If your truck can't do the posted speed limit, then your truck needs to be in the RIGHT LANE ONLY! The only reason it should be in the left lane is if the right lane is closed.... period.
I am tired of the governed truck coming up on another governed truck and then the driver jumps in the left lane to pass without even looking in the mirror, Cutting off the truck that can do the speed limit which was about to pass the both of them.
But what is worse Is that it will now take that governed truck 3 miles or better to try and get around the truck he was behind.
If your truck can not do the posted speed limit, It does not belong in the left lane .....Repeat IT does NOT BELONG in the left lane.thelushlarry, 6 Speed and Cowmobile Thank this. -
And that's fine if under the speed limit, but you don't get too dictate to us that like money more than speed. You have no more right to that interstate than I do.
If I miss judge your speed when I go to pass the guy in front of me, I'll step it up a notch to get around and back on the right and apologize to ya. Same thing if someone is in the breakdown lane. I'm moving over, even if it causes you to slow down. Your inconvenience isn't worth the life of the guy on the shoulder. -
So, if a cop is just driving along at 55 mph he had better get out of your lane. Seems we lack professional drivers anymore.
