Yeah, I love that one too. Mine is not all decked out with eye candy like some owner trucks, so many will assume it is a company truck and do the same thing. It is fun to keep building the speed and get up to something like 75 mph, then I shift again! I dearly love the look on their face when I make that shift, and I still am not in the top hole!
But it is truly sad that folks feel they need to mess with other drivers, especially company drivers, like that. For instance, when I enter the freeway, and when a company truck pulls over to let me on, I don't speed up to where is messes with them. I will just moderate my speed so they can get around and back to the right, then when I get the chance, I can just move over to the left and scoot on around them. I forgot the word for that.... oh yeah! It's called courtesy.WitchingHour, JPenn, AfterShock and 4 others Thank this. -
LMAO. Spyder is right. You are totally, utterly and completely WRONG. I suppose terminal velocity doesn't exist in your world?mattbnr Thanks this.

Why do you say that?
How do you possibly think you can get the same fuel mileage at 74 as you do at a slower speed with proper gearing? 50 mph tail wind? Driving on the moon?
Heck you don't even need to change the rear gear. Try it yourself if you don't trust the laws of physics. Just drop a gear or two and run at 1350 and report back to us what your fuel mileage was.Last edited: Apr 14, 2014
mattbnr Thanks this. -
even if it burns more fuel. ...I rather take a couple thousand on the chin and be home with my family then to stay on the road trying to save fuel
-
Saving fuel by slowing down a few miles an hour can not prevent you from getting home. In some mythical world you would get unloaded sooner by arriving an hour early on a 1000 mile run, but in reality, the receiver won't open till a specific time and we are both gonna be sitting there when they do.
-
Now in a perfect world they would unload/load us whenever we show up. We all know that isn't the case. 99% Of the time we have a appointment time and even if no one else is in the dock they won't unload you until your appointment time. So why speed and waste fuel just to sit at the shipper/receiver on the off chance that they MIGHT get to you early? You cant charge them detention until your appointment time anyway so you might as well time it to where you get there about your appointment time so your not donating time to them just to sit around. Just my thoughts.
falcon71 Thanks this. -
I run out loaded come back empty...so I dont have to get unloaded when I come home...when I grt to the loaded rack they 8 times out of 10 waiting on me and ready to unload...if they pull a sample depends on the plant it could take a minute but usually they take the analysis the shipper sends...
-
So they are open 24/7? And the difference of a few miles per hour in average speed equates to missing atleast a half a day at home a month? Not exactly saying I doubt believe you, but I've never known a lane where five miles an hour will make a difference of more than a couple hours a week.
-
No not open 24/7 if we come back with a load we drop it on the yard....and the local guys take car of it...this how my week goes
load monday 1200 mile trip
get there tuesday night
unload wensday morning
home Thursday night
either do 2 local friday or take off friday thru sunday
