For trucks specced for a lot of off road driving that rear end ratio can be north of 4. I've driven hundreds of trucks specced for off road, some as high as 5.15.
The next thing is the transmission. You can order a transmission specced any way you want. I've driven trucks that make the shift from second to highest gear to highest gear at 50 mph, others at 65 mph. It all depends on how the truck is set up.
Obviously if a truck is set up to run fast on the open road you want "tall gears", lots of horsepower and torque, and a driver behind the wheel that knows how to drive it without grenading the drive train. You WON'T find such a rig in ANY fleet that features a high percentage of rookies.TripleSix and truckerman75103 Thank this. -
Geez, just go buy a bully dog and you can reprogram your speed, or visit the diesel Dr. i think he was in Effingham & somewhere else to right? Memory is a bit foggy on him. I never used him, i liked getting my paychecks. Lol But he used to claim he could back door the ecm, nobody would ever be able to tell the truck was turned up.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -

The ECM logs the software ID of the system that connects to it. However it is almost impossible to change settings because this is password protected. Don't believe most of those stories.

Was driving my mom down to Florida to catch a cruise ship. Mom was asleep in the back of the car, and my kid brother was riding shotgun. Sun was coming up.
Mom: You’re running 110 mph??? Why?????
Six: Just keeping up in traffic.
Mom: Slow it down!
(mom dozed off again)
Mom: You’re running 115? Why are you driving so fast?
Six: Just keeping up in traffic.
Mom: Who are you keeping up with that’s running THAT fast?
LittleBrother: That big rig in front of us.
Mom: Whoa!!!!! -

My truck is ungoverned. I WILL run over 80 mph if that is the best way to stay safe, BUT I NEVER sustain any more than 70 mph. That's because I am not aware of ANY truck tire that is specced for anything more than 70 mph.
Look at all the tires on your tractor and trailer. Note the make and model. Look that information up on a Google search. You can quickly find the specs of your tires. I haven't yet found a truck tire that is rated for more than sustained 70 mph. If anyone has found a tire rated for more than that, please post the link. I'm interested.Coffey Thanks this.
