Is the fact that Schneider's trucks are governed at 60MPH a major enough reason to choose another carrier to work for instead of them?

I think it's a minor safety hazard personally having trucks governed that low. A driver tries to go around a slower moving vehicle in the fast lane and gets caught over in the hammer lane when the slowpoke speeds up from 58 to 61. Then the driver gets antsy and agitated trying to get back over into the slow lane.

You should have seen the day they had Cab-Overs.:biggrin_2559: But to be honest with you, if your just starting out, go with them if they will hire you. Get your time in and later move on to different companies.

    yes!

    60mph 58mph average x 11 hours = 638
    62mph 60mph average x 11 hours = 660
    65mph 63mph average x 11 hours = 693
    70mph 68mph average x 11 hours = 748

so if you can do 60 and i can do 70 i can Legally log 110 more miles a day then you... multiply 110 x what ever you get paid per mile and you'll see what you can be looseing for money. Not to mention your wasteing a ton of hours putting along at 60mph.

    638miles x .25cpm = $159.5
    748miles x .25cpm = $187

when you get some experiance and become a real trucker it'll look more like this

    75mph truck, 73mph average (out west) x 11 hours = 803miles x .50cpm = $401.50 in ONE 11 hour driving shift....

and for the sheet coast (east coast)

    75mph truck 63mph average x 11 hours = 639miles x .50cpm = $346.50

Again, a gross over-simplification. Those raw numbers are not going to repeated every day, week after week. The differences are smaller than you think, and certainly smaller than presented in ATs post.

And as a "real trucker", he should know that.

for y'all running e-logs your right. But for those runing paper logs that average out their speed (like a smart driver) you average speed in a 65mph truck should be 60-63.5mph everyday thus my numbers are very acurate.:biggrin_25522:

(NOTE: for new drivers dont have your average speed the same everyday and it needs to reflect the area you are driving in or you WILL get caught)

It's a valid point though AT brings up. As a company driver it benefits you monetarily to drive faster and log the miles, all else being equal (which is rarely the case but the point stands.) As an owner-op paying for your own fuel it can be slightly more complicated than that depending on how youre paid (percentage vs. cpm), but as a company driver 75 mph trucks and states would be the biz, when safe obviously.

    No argument there. :biggrin_25522:

However, there are other things to consider, such as benefits (just to name one). The bottom right on your paycheck is not necessarily the final word as to the quality of a company.

Besides, long before your career is over, e-logs will be the rule.
