Swifts are setup for 5 minute shutdown no matter what the temp is unless you sit there and wait 5 minutes to cancel the shutdown, I have yet to figure out how to throttle my prostar and was told there is a way.

Many companies have APU's. You have more choices if you go to a private school. Stevens has APU's.

As for speed, I worked for a OTR reefer company; the trucks were governed at 66 on cruise and 68 with the pedal. The had one oddball truck a couple of years older that was very plush and quiet on the inside; and was governed at 62 on cruise and pedal. I chose to move into the slower truck because I liked it better. My annual pay did not change.

Speed of trucks don't matter too much. Let's say u got a non gov truck vs a 62 . Non gov truck gets short loads with only 2200 miles aweek at .39 cents. Then the 62 mph truck gets 3200 miles at .37 who would u choose?

The company I'm with ours are set at 70 with apus.

Some trucks will continue to idle if you bump the cruise control switch.

Chock the truck wheels and release the truck break.

done that one too another drive told me, it still dies. I set the trailer brakes and release the tractor.

Maybe they have it rigged where only pressing the clutch will do it, I could always wedge the clutch but then that would be bad on the clutch wouldnt it?

Not sure how many companies will hire you and give you a 80mph truck with out any real experience.I'm not governed and its not as exciting as you would think
    I drive 68 69

when I was in a faster truck I drove mostly 65, occasionally 68 if I was trying to hurry. During certain situations I drive slower anyway, during a storm the other day I drove 40mph since the wind was rocking my empty trailer back and forth and pushing it into the other lane.

A lot of new drivers want to go out and drive fast but the new drivers would probably have more accidents if there was no governing. Being new you dont know how to handle the road well, some of these roads can catch you off guard. Get good at driving the truck first and then look for faster speeds later. Kinda like a race car, I doubt someone says one day "I want to get in a race car and drive 200mph"
