The atlas for me. But I do use streets and trips to get a better feel for the route if I'm not familiar with it. Especially when company directions give you the cute little names for , let's say, US20 through Ohio and Indiana. Who really cares about the local names. I use it as well for a close up to the shipper/receiver. But GPS and I have never gotten along, as I hobble along with my cane!

Yepper, the few and last time I relied on GPS, I got to pay an overlength ticket. If it hadn't been a company GPS, it would have wound up under one of the drives.

That is if the street sign is there.

You have to have an atlas. IMO, anyone without is in trouble. But then again, I've never used a "trucker's" GPS. I have an older Garmin for a four wheeler. It works great for me and it was very cheap.
If I go to a shipper or cosignee that I've not been to before, I always call to verify directions.
I like the GPS for more than just routing....I enjoy the other features as far as how far away the next rest area is, knowing what the name of the upcoming street/road is, etc...
Maybe one of these days I'll buy one of those high dollar Rand McNally GPS'. But until then this cheap-o will do just fine. lol
