Still good to have the atlas for the low clearances, etc. You don't get that on a GPS. And what if your GPS craps out on you?
GPS or GPS program for trucks?

For the laptop route, MS Streets and Trips has a trucker add-on Truck Stops Plus. I haven't personally used it but have heard some very good reviews. It does come with an antenna for use with a laptop (usb port). Since I did logs on the laptop, I found having the mapping program (MS Streets & Trips , 06) there was useful.
Regardless, never trust the GPS or map program, cross check vs the trucking atlas. You never know when someone screwed up at the programing company or the laptop poops out.
Just providing an alternative to the expensive trucking GPS. -
I wanted to bump this thread to see if anyone has used this MS Streets & Trips add on for trucks & your thoughts on it.
Personally, I have used Streets & Trips regular 4 wheeler software for 8 or 9 years & I think its one of the best. I have always used it in the big truck & has also worked well. I am starting a new job with a new company in a couple of days & will be running some areas that I havent been running. I just upgraded to MS S & T 2013 so I thought I might get the add on if its worth it. The biggest thing I am looking for in truckers GPS software for a laptop is things related to truck routes like restricted or bridges, tunnels etc... I know where to stop (truck stops etc) I just need to know where to go & more importantly, where NOT to go.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
