We have an old Garmin and hubby wants a IntelliRoute® TND 710. Does anyone have an opinion on this or a recommendation on a different model?

    Thanks in advance.

In my opinion the 710 is one of the best gps units on the market. I had a magellan b4 this one it was good, but the 710 is far better. The amount of info at your finger tips is unbelievible. I think your husband will be pleased.

I just downloaded the Tele Type gps app for my phone. so far no big problems, still testing it though.

Does the 710 have the free map updates? If not how much to update and how often?

Go over to Diesel Boss. Com. He has a comparison chart of the top truck specific gps devices. He also stands behind what he sells both before and after the sale and he'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have.

Other then that, if you're looking at the 710, look at the 720. It is the next generation to the 710.

the rand mcnally is an awesome gps. The only problem i had with it was teh usb port. I had to ship it back to them like 3 times to get it fixed. You can update it at no cost, you just have to download the softwware on the website. It alwasys seems that i have a problem with it and have to send it back and when i'm without it i end up going into philly or soewhere where i really wished i had it. I do miss it when it's being fixed but they are quck on getting it back to ya. Although you always do need a copy of the reciept and stuff to send in with it. But i would definetly reccomend it

I have one and it is good as far as a GPS goes. Just don't depend on it to take you to your destination without using the other tools available. Use your phone to call the customer if possible to have them tell you the best route to their location for the last few miles. Use Google Maps Satellite, use your atlas and most of all USE YOUR HEAD.

Yes don't take it totally to gospel. It's a very useful tool along with an atlas and directions if possible from the customer. I do like my TND-510, the 7 inch screen is a little much for me lol.

I can not recommend the Rand McNally products.

I replaced the TND product with a Garmin Dezl 560 with life time map updates. I have yet to have a problem with it.

Thanks very much for the response. I went to Diesel Boss and the comparison seems to recommend the PCMiller. So I will let hubby look at that next time he's in.

We use a Rand McNally and a truck Garmin plus directions from the QC plus the atlas. Overkill? Maybe but peace of mind is a great thing when you've got 53 extra feet behind ya. Rand MvNally has great tools that let u look up truck stops where ur currently driving or a diff city where u think u might b shutting down - plus Wally Worlds and hotels and other things. Very helpful for planning pull overs etc. BUT. we like that on the Garmin u can force it to go a certain way and save it. Garmin also leaves a "bread crumb trail". A blue line that shows where uve been. That's been handy a couple of times. Any GPS is helpful and they all have their certain advantages. Have fun shopping And u can do comparisons on diff web sites. ;)
