We used a Garmin in the past, but it was not one that was for trucks, therefore you needed to know where low bridges and restricted routes were at before you got to them. I did like the ability to be able to change the route as needed by a via point.
Husband has the TND 710 and likes it; it is more for trucking because of having the restricted bridges and roads in it and most of the truckstops they use. He has had some of the problems mentioned on Amazon's website, the hangups mostly
I just looked at the ad for the 720 and it sounds like it may have the feature where you can change the route easier now than the 710. It is supposed to be built more rugged, have the capability of seeing the weather, boy that would have been nice this past spring in the Denver area, the ability to put in multiple stops along the way, and bread crumb trails. You might want to read some of the reviews on this though.
Where they sell says they are at Love's, Pilot Flying J, TA, Wilco Hess; truck dealers Mack, Volvo, etc.

I use Google Navigation on my Droid X2. It's free, has a 4.2in display, and I can look up anything and everything I could ever want with it. Plus I can make phone calls, watch videos, listen to music, and surf the internet with it. It may not be trucker specific, but a quick look my trucker specific atlas will tell me of any issues with my route ahead of time.
Ultimately, common sense is the best trip planning tool out there. It's a rare thing, and you can't buy it, but if you've got it, you're set. -
Thanks NavigatorWife. This is good to know. Amazon shows a refurbished 710 for quite a bit cheaper and since it's been refurbished the kinks have been worked out. So that may be the better way to go.

What do you do to it to make it 'better' than a simple used piece?
Answer?
Nothing.
You just say it in the ad, and clean it with a little Windex.
Get a clue. -
I've owned a few and they all use Navteq mapping software.
I particularly like Magellan products and they now have a commercial version reasonably priced.

biggs1303 Thanks this. -
I am not sure about the refurbished, like Moosetek says it could just be a return someone didn't like.
I would check out Amazon's return policy. And like others have stated these are just tools, you need to look at the ATlas for low bridges, etc. to stay on the safe side, and monitor the route it puts you on.
