I bought DeLorme's Street Atlas Plus and installed it on my laptop. When I get a trip, I create the route and send it to my handheld (Treo 700W) I have mounted on the dash. That way I can talk hands free and still get voice and visual clues to where I am going.
Of course, when they throw in the inevitable change, it kinda puts a monkey wrench in things, but overall, it works out really good.
Street Atlas runs around $60 bucks or so. Some like the '06 version better than the '07 version.

I bought the Delorme earthmate gps LT-20 It seems to wook good has the gps antenna can pickup where you are at and has voice guided direction and you can even as it questions How far til next turn, were am I, etc if you get tired of hearing it tell it shut up and the voice stops. you still get the directions though. I paid aprox 100.00 for it that was the cheapest gps that the store had were I have a charge acount.

My old co-driver used his cell phone...I believe it was a NexTel...worked fine for him. Especially since he wasn't allowed to use my laptop...he liked tail gating and slamming the brakes...."laptop in floor"

I sat and watched it function. It seemed as good as DeLorme to me, which is what I use.

The Palm Pilot issue...my sister uses. I can't say anything about it personally. But, she likes it.

I have a Dell Axim X-51V handheld computer (like the Palm....But better!!). I use it every day for my GPS, e-mail, reading and posting here, address book, planner, just about anything you can do on a laptop I can do on my handheld. I love it for my GPS. I have a Blue Tooth GPS receiver and I have a mount for my PDA that attaches right to the windshield. I have 3 different mapping programs and maps for the entire US. If you don't want the bulk of the laptop I would seriously consider getting a GOOD PDA that has expandable memory and Bluetooth connection capability. It's great being able to carry your computer in your shirt pocket!:biggrin_25519:
