The rand gps units begin with tnd, the tnd 510 is the 5" screen, the 710 is the 7" screen, and the 720 is the new 7" screen with the wifi. I believe the 720 can connect to wifi, through a smartphone for instance, and overlay a weather map on the driving map. I would also love to see real time traffic info there as well but I don't know if they have it, though it should be possible. Keep in mind you would need something like a smartphone with a wifi hotspot for this to work on the road, and if you don't get signal you don't get the wifi benefits.

the TND 5" or TND 7" have either an automatic or manual setting to dim the brightness of the screen, you obviously seem to not know how to use that feature.
TND=== Totally New Device
nah...i dun't know, all i know is i got's me the 5" screen, which i have set to automatically dim the brightness of the screen.>!!!
and i am OLD TOO..>!! -
basically what gravdigr said, the caveat is also like he said you to have an active wifi connection for it to give the most benefit.

Thanx for the replies--I also wonder if these units will work--NOT mounted on Dash--I hate anything in my line of sight--I always keep both my windshields entirely clear--I even leave my ez pass in the glovebox and only take it out and put on dash at the toll points--so can I plug this unit in--and say leave it on passenger seat--or somewhere else? or does it need to be mounted?
ThanxCAXPT Thanks this. -
I have the Garmin 560. It is the 5" screen model specifically for truckers.
You can do multiple driver logging with it. Keep track of fuel and in which states for tax purposes. Low bridge, traffic light cameras, no truck streets, steep grades ahead, weigh station locations etc etc. You can do street by street trip planning with it and by far it has the easiest pain free interface compared to the Cobra or Rand McNally. I have had both and prefer the Garmin over any of them. Oh,.. and you can use the blue tooth feature to make phone calls with it through your cel phone. Come with a little pad, windshield mount is separate, it stays in place pretty good. Takes a pretty mean bump to bounce it off the dash.
I use my atlas mainly for state to state,.. but need the GPS for in town directions. When my cel phone took a dump on me, I typed in "Sprint service center" and it took me to the closest one. Total life saver.
