I really love these threads. People are so resistant to change and will come with the wildest claims and reasons to support their fear of change.
It makes me wonder about what it was like when people started building bathrooms inside their houses. I can only imagine what horrible things the fear of change crowd claimed would happen as a result of having plumbing in the house. And how they would pontificate that outhouses were far superior.
I drive local and I use a regular old standard $100 GPS. I don't have any paper maps in the truck nor have I ever needed them. I put the address in and let the GPS calculate a route. Then I zoom the screen out so I can see an overview of the entire route. Every once in a while I'll alter the route keep on state roads for more of the trip, but I would estimate that 99% of the time I end up driving exactly what the GPS calculates.
If I had to use paper maps to find each stop, I would expect to add 30 minutes to each day for route planning if not more. Since I get paid by the stop, that would be time that I'm not getting paid for.
You guys can keep coming up with excuses for why change is bad and why the antique way is better. I'll keep using my $100 Garmin and getting home from work that much sooner.![]()
