Wanted to add that the loans at TDDS are like the pell grant and stuff just like a traditional college. Have to fill out a FAFSA.

So basically it sounds like, in PA at least, you pretty much have to pay for it yourself. Kinda the conclusion I had come to myself but wanted to make sure. May check out TDDS in Ohio but I doubt that will be something I'll end up doing. Thanks anyway.

I'd check with OOIDA to see if there are any in your state. Usually they're mainly state based. Even if you're not a member, they usually answer questions about grants and there are few organizations that know more!

Call the unemployment office in your state. They will have a lot of useful info on this type of thing.
-
Going to follow the OOIDA link you provided. Don't even know what that is but I'm gonna try it anyway... Career Link is the unemployment office in PA. Changed over years ago.

Tried the OOIDA web site. Overwhelming amount of info but I can't find what I need, i.e., loans/grants, etc. Have to be a member to get on the forums and ask a question. I can view them so I'm looking now.

Actually I can't even view the forums. Can't tell, can't ask.

WIA, Vocational Rehabilitation, Unemployment, Pell Grant, Private Student Loans. The programs listed above pay for truck driving schools. WIA-Displaced Worker, Voc Rehab-Disabilty either mental or physical, Unemployment-Self explanatory, Pell Grant-Community College/Private college, and of course personal or student private loans.
The companies that offer there own school are: Swift, Schnieder, Roehl, Stevens, Central, Prime and Driver Services. That I know of off the top of mt head!
What I have heard is community colleges are the best because they give you longer time to train two college quarters. Then there are the private drive schools length in training time varies.
Bates Tech College Tacoma, WA takes two quarters to complete, plus you get your forklift cert and you actually get to haul freight to a location in state. (No housing available).
Just my 2cents! Please pass on any information and if you have any comments feel free to message me! I love to help people research and find the information that they are looking for! If it was not for the passion of traveling and wanting to drive tractor-trailors, I would have became a career counselor! lolLast edited: Jun 22, 2011
