It depends on the grease, if its applied properly, and how often. I have a hard time believing nothing has worn out in that timeframe. Everything wears out eventually, no matter how much you grease it.

one time I saw the u joint behind the trans had a shinny surface, where it looked like it was spinning. I replaced it. it is the only u joint replaced since I bought truck over 15 years. that one U joint is also the only one that requires more grease than all the other original U joints. you may be right, maybe they all need replacing, but there is NO indication of that at this time.

Based on my limited understanding and research:

The Mystic red JT-6 is a lithium complex, which appears to be compatible with most of the other greases except barium, clay and polyurea. It's convenient to just use one grease for the whole truck for me. Usually convenience trumps carrying three grease guns on the truck for all the different applications.

The Lucas heavy duty uses a polyurea base which gives it it's thickness and increased hold, allowing longer lube intervals. The problem with the polyurea is it's incompatible with all other greases except the calcium complex. I'd rather have a better cross compatibility than less lube intervals. Good to know if I run out of Mystic I can use something else until I stock back up.

After researching greases I'm going with the Mystic red tube for the whole truck. Hopefully, it all works out...

I use traveler extra heavy duty grease for the whole. Bought it from tractor supply. So far, keeps the rust off the fifth wheel.

Just buy good grease and grease often. At the end of the year what little you would save using cheap grease is not going to make much difference on a P&L statement.
