Yes companies will hire students. Some companies will teach you to drive and get you your cdl. Lima is right about crude. Most companies wouldn't hire someone without a 1-2 experience to haul crude. My company hasn't slowed down at all lately. Guys are getting 70 hrs a week if they want them and I would say water haulers make between 13-22 per hour dependent were your at. I would never work for somebody who didn't pay overtime after forty.

Appreciate your answers. I will look into water trucking companies as well. I would love to get into the crude trucking business due to the high wages and long hours. Looks like I just need some tanker experience prior to getting the nod for the big leagues. $14 an hour is good to start out at if you're getting 60 hours a week. Over $50,000 for a new guy is excellent money.

When you were working 60 hours a week, what did your work schedule look like?

How much experience do you have in trucking?

Again, thank you for your help!

    Thanks for the response

I am about to go into a CDL school later this month or the beginning of next.
With the 1-2 years of experience, would it matter if it was tanker exp or not?
What parts of the Texas oil patch makes more per hour? What cities?
From what I have been reading, some of the North Dakota drivers don't get OT, but that's also due to the high dollar per hour wage.
What city are you driving out of?

    Thank you

I can understand why they wouldn't want to trust a new comer with such an dangerous and expensive product.

Thanks for your response as well.

I appreciate everyones here. This forum has been great resource for me. Thanks

I am currently waiting for approval for the WIA (Workforce Investment Act) to get approval for me so it can pay $4000 off of the total cost of the CDL school.

This is a government program and the money doesn't have to be repaid. If anyone is interested in this program for going to school for their CDL, you can either contact me or get in contact with the Labor Department where they handle unemployment in your city. Here in New Mexico it's called Workforce Solutions.

I got all paperwork submitted on Tuesday of this week. So I don't know everything about it yet, but I will be open to answering questions concerning what I know about it.

Many of the jobs you are talking about are straight time. No overtime. Still good money but don't want people thinking they are going to be making $35 plus an hour on overtime hauling water in ND. Tx is lower but with overtime after 40. Better winters . Much worse summers. Pick your poison.

What do y'all think about hauling crude in Midland/Odessa on salary??

The pay is $250 per day plus a $21 daily per diem, avg two loads per day, 12-14hr days, company paid hotel, minimum thirty days before time at home, assigned equipment w/PTO hook-up during load/unload...??
