Another displaced construction worker here making a career change at 46. I'm starting school at ATDS next week and should have my CDL with endorsements four in four weeks. I'm hoping to find a local job hauling fuel. Something with good pay, new truck an home each night. :biggrin_25523: Seriously, my career councilor warned me about the saturated market and how everyone is a truck driver and most don't want OTR. It may be a tough nut to crack I know. And the pay may suck at first, assuming I find a job, but there is hope. I have a buddy I grew up with hauling gas locally. He's been driving for 20+ years, and another who works for Walmart. Both make very good money. Maybe someday...Glad I found this forum. Lots of good info.

If you can't find a "home every night job" right off, look at some other hazmat tanker jobs so you can be more competitive for the local jobs in a few months.

    CTL Transportation

Both of these companies hire new CDL grads and are running in your area.

Thanks for the tip China. I'll look into the taker jobs. Since hauling fuel is the long run goal it sounds like good experience. Like others, i don't want to miss my kids growing up. also, Im a bit worried about my age and running out of time. Although I am physically fit, construction years are like dog years. The aging process is sped up. Not much I can do about that. Besides, I'll never be younger than I am today.

    Chinatown Thanks this.
