Live in the Albuquerque area, worked for the city with 18 years towards my PERA. Decided to become a Driver because of a continuous pay freeze which is killing me because Im making a lower income wage. Thought I had a future but that didn't happen. Might be moving around the country soon as my Son is a AF officer and Im looking foward to grandchildren. Cold War Veteran 79-83. Truck driving job means a job anywhere in the country. Figure I got about 10 to 15 years of work left in me, then Im going fishing until I die.

Been a Correctional Officer, Factory Worker, Shipping Clerk, and Apprentice machinist for Lockheed Martin. Working in a Prison is very stressful, became factory worker until NAFTA got my company bought out in hostile takeover, had just gotten job as Shipping clerk there, nice desk job, took machinist classes at TVI to hang around for factory dismantling to be moved to Mexico, got recruited by Sandia labs, other machinists in town found out Labs were hiring college students, so all went back to college. Heavy competition for few job slots. Was considered reject by other machine shop owners in town, so best offer was $8.25 hour, (dollar above minimum wage) and blue cross blue shield. Applied to City, got job watching city museums, zoo, etc. been doing that ever since at the same wage for 11 years.

So, hoping I pass the Trucking muster, and I can do a job with a future that wont fall out from under me for awhile.

Welcome! I lived in Albuquerque for two years, loved it out there, but had to come back to Pennsylvania for my wife's family. If you are looking for a good paying and adventourous job, Danlar Towing (221 Dorado Pl SE) is always looking for CDL drivers for their tow trucks and lowboy trailers. You may also want to go talk to CGL/Rinchem (either 2nd or 4th NW near Menaul) , they pay real well and run all over the country. Most of their drivers have been there a long time. I would still be with Danlar if I didn't have to move back east. Good luck with your new career.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. :biggrin_25514: I am currently talking to a Fortune Trucking Recruiter and hope to be learning the ropes on the road in around 6 weeks. Hold up is with the Hazardous mat Endorsement as it now has to go through the TSA. I am at the mercy of Government agencies. Printed out the very helpful New Truck Drivers stuff to take list, and am looking to turn in my resignation papers to my current dead end job in 4 weeks. Thanks for the advice, and maybe I'll meet you on the road. lol.

Greetings, I just moved back from NY to NM. I sure enjoy the 250+ sunshine days here. I'm on a dedicated account out of Los Lunas. As stated before get all the endorsements u can, also try a company the pulls many different trailers as well. Good luck!
