Hello truckers! A wannabe here. A little bit about me....I'm 50yo living on the Oregon coast. Born and raised in Ohio and joined the Navy after HS. Married an Oregonian so here I am. Kids are grown and moved out. The wife has her career and I'm bored with mine. So I started thinking about trucking. Again.

Money isn't a problem but IDK if I want to fork out $4K for a school and hope to get a job or joining someone like Swift and putting my time in and then maybe finding a better company. I'm leaning towards Swift. I've always thought I'd like to drive for Gordon but I'd need experience for that. I imagine most of trucking as what you make of it. I'm pretty flexible and the Navy taught me to "hurry up and wait". I think I'd be good at it. I'm not anti-social but I'm a loner by nature.

I'd like to hear from some Oregon truckers, but anyone really. I'm glad i found this site. I appreciate all your contributions!

Hey there Bucky,I drive through Seaside from time to time in the truck and every Summer on the Harley.
I live in SW Washington but I'm an Orygun native, great place to live even though it's been overrun with libtards from Cali.
As stated above Gordon does hire students from approved schools, I went to IITR in Clackamas and would recommend them to anyone.
They also have a school in Albany but either way a good school.
My current gig has me hauling from Warrenton just up the road from you every day,Walsh will hire with one year experience so it's a close to home option that will get you home daily.
I drive out of Kalama,WA and haul my loads from Kalama up to Auburn,WA (near Tacoma) and get a back haul usually to Longview then drop my trailer back in Warrenton for the night crew to load and bring back to Kalama for me so I can leave there in the morning loaded.
I usually also get a back haul from Warrenton to Longview or one to drop in Kalama, keeps me moving loaded all day pretty much.
We have a handful of trucks in Warrenton working both day and night so it's something to think about, it's only 15-20 minutes from Seaside to Warrenton.
Oh,forgot to mention it's woodchip hauling from the Hampton lumber mill, I mostly haul shavings in a live floor trailer but there are plenty of chips coming out of that mill ,we also haul from a mill in Tillamook.
Anyways, welcome to the PAC NW and good luck.

Here you can see the mill by the Skipanon river and zoomed up some of our trucks/trailers parked at the entrance of the mill.

Hey, thanks for that post! I used to live in Estacada and drove by IITR and seen their trucks alot. Thanks for the recommending them. And of course I saw alot of Gordon trucks and always heard good things about them so I liked them. Living in Seaside now though kinda changes things. And working out of Warrenton would be sweet. The wife would like that. I will definitely keep that in mind!

Sounds like you've got a good run. I used to live in Tacoma so I know the area. Have made the drive from here to there and back numerous times.

A live floor trailer, I'll have to research that. LOL Seriously, thanks for the post!

If you're in the hiring area, James J. Williams would be a good company. They're on the trans-system website and hire out of DTS CDL school and a few other good schools.

Did you ever visit the museums and other sites in Olongapo when you were in the Navy?

I had never heard of that company, but I will research it. Thanks. And no, I spent most of my time in the barrio.

I was joking about Olongapo! I was a wild sailor back in those days and no regrets as far as liberty time. Best wishes in your new career.

The 1st time I was there I hung with a friend who had been stationed there in the past so he immediately got us out of town away from all the other sailors. We partied but it was way low key compared to OC. I always spent a night on the strip tho. I just don't remember most of it. LOL

And thanks. The wife is cool with me trying trucking, finally. That was the only thing that held me back before. Now i just have to convince myself to make the leap!

If you know Tacoma then I haul to a place in Auburn near the Casino and usually get a back haul from Simpson lumber at Com. Cay port of Tacoma.

Here's how a live or actually a walking floor works.
