Hello everybody. Greetings from lovely Colorado. I started off driving for Swift, but after 5 months I've decided to jump Ship. With any luck I'll soon be working for Melton. Trucking is an incredible career, and I'm excited about my future. I look forward to hearing from you guys and learning about all the different aspects of Trucking. Are there any flatbedder's here that can give a rookie like me some good advice?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings

Welcome to the forum, good luck . Melton is a good outfit from what I hear,
Best advice I can give as a flatbedder/heavy hauler is watch, ask keep an open mind we don't mind helping new guy's out as long as there's no attitude with it, it's not that hard common sense for the most part, just don't be afraid to ask. Good luck -
Hello and welcome to TTR!

and best of luck with your new company. There is good info on this site about different companies, we used it A LOT when Mr. T was looking to move to local from OTR, and really appreciated the honest and sensible advice we found here.
Don't forget that if someone has written about a company you are interested in, you can always PM then for more info. -
Hi critters. That's awesome that you're into heavy hauling. That's something that I'll look into later on down the road. Is it true you guys can make $5,000-$10,000/week? My Swift experience dinged my attitude for about a week or so, but then I started to miss it. At this point I can't wait to start driving again. Despite the ease and convenience of dry van I still prefer flatbed. I like to see and secure my load, and I don't mind the tarping. Melton pays better for it anyway. I hear Melton hauls a lot of coils which is fine with me. They're easy to secure and catch less wind.Last edited: Jun 15, 2013

Hi Mrs T. Thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll pm somebody about what to expect at orientation. I'm scheduled for this coming Monday 6/24/2013. Would this be a good thread to keep a log of my experience as I go, or is there a more appropriate thread for that?Last edited: Jun 15, 2013

Hey Ray! I will also be starting orientation on the 24th. I'm going to the one in Dallas. How about you?

Hi Jen. It's ok if I call you that right? I'll be over in the Oklahoma terminal. Try not to sweat your tail off down there. I remember doing basic training in San Antonio in the summer of 96. What an awful memory ... At least you won't have to worry about drill instructors.
I'm real excited. I hear all kinds of great things about Melton from the people I talk to. I hope it's really as good as the hype. I guess we'll be bumping into each other down the road. Can't wait to start driving again. At Swift I was teaming when I left just to try and do better than 26 cpm if you know what I mean. It'll be nice to have a new Kenworth truck with an apu and inverter and to finally make enough to be able to drive solo again. What's your handle? -
I've started a new thread entitled Orientation 6/24/13.Mrs T Thanks this.

I'm very excited! I started with C.R. England, and was there about 5 months. I was teaming with my brother and he backed into a chain link fence. They terminated him over it and told me to go solo or quit. I didn't want to drive solo with them, so I quit. I've never done flatbed before, but I love learning new things. I've heard a lot of great things about Melton, and their equipment is beautiful! I don't really have a handle, I haven't gotten a CB yet. Anyway.. Hope your orientation goes well! Feel free to PM me whenever you want.
