I think the Aussies say"change em , don't rearrange em."
KillingTime and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
I CRINGE when I discover the nice new cherry truck does not have a engine brake worth a ####, if you can sit still long enough to find it. Or let her settle by spinning down to engage.
I so want to shoot the stoopid engineers overthinking stuff that works fine from the freaking 50's for crying out loud. (/.Whine.../RANT) -
That Paystar probably had a Hendrickson rear end. They're not easy to destroy, but sounds like you sure found a way.
x1Heavy Thanks this. -
When I was selling my '85 Pete daycab, a nice young man comes to look at it. He had a landscaping business and needed a day cab to pull an equipment wagon. So I take him for a ride, he says, can I try it? Um,,,ok, you DO know what you're doing, don't you? Oh, sure, he says kind of ####y, we have all kinds of trucks. I said, ever drive a 13 speed? No, but I know what I'm doing ( again, ####y) OK, here you go,,, this punk didn't make it 20 feet. Never did change a gear.( tried twice) He says, get this, I really like the truck, but your synchronizers in the tranny are shot,,,,I'm gonna pass.
misterG, AModelCat, scottied67 and 3 others Thank this. -
C'mon man, never once ground a gear in 35 years? I can buy not junking a gearbox, read enough of your posts to know you are a true old school pro, but never once ground a gear...that's a little hard to believe.Dumdriver, Canadianhauler21, okiedokie and 2 others Thank this.
-
If you have learned how to shift by the feel and sound of the tractor you should not be grinding. However while learning to drive I ground plenty of transmissions not a lot but some. Any driver that tells you they have never ever ground a gear anytime in their career is talking out their butt.
-
Ok, you called me out on that, of course I was being a bit ####y. I should have said, never CLASHED a gear. Some people don't know how a non-synchro trans works, and feel, perhaps out of desperation, jamming it in the gear is ok. "Riding" a gear is one thing, where you gently "ride" the gear until it meshes, but to clash a gear is pure stupidity.
-
Clashing a gear should be grounds for immediate revocation of your CDL. Or being sentenced to one of those megas that use those infernal autoshifts.
-
oooo. Let me have him a few hours in that tractor, shall we? I'll break his bronc to saddle or he runs crying for mommy to make his hurts all better eh?
I wuv this kind of material from people who are inadequate to what we do and too stupid to understand same.
