Hey all, been a owner op for a couple years now, leasing on to a couple different carriers.

I know my cost per mile including fixed and variable costs.

Where im leasing my truck on to now ive come up with $1.67 with every mile put on truck. Flatbed trailers provided by carrier at no cost.

Lightweight freight, most of the time multiple stops 3-5. All i have to do is pick up trailer that’s already loaded and roll down the road. Consistent freight year round.

Back hauls always geared towards taking me back to the terminal instead of chasing the best rate.

My goal in this thread is just to compare to what other owner ops are grossing per mile before expenses. (Preferably flatbed work, but all are welcome)

And do yall think what i got now is a decent gig? Im always looking to improve, again i know my costs and im making a profit now, but I feel i could make a larger profit...

Does your cost per mile have paying yourself figured in? If it does and you do about 2 bucks or a little better all miles I'd stay where you're at.

What all does the carrier pay for?

What are you responsible for paying other then your fuel?

That all can make a big difference.

But, were your trailers already loaded at your other carrier?

That seems like a big time saver to me, also you don't have to waste time on the load boards looking for good paying freight.

Factor in how much your time is worth, then compare.

That new gig seems like a cakewalk looking in from the outside.

You pay for fuel out of 1.67? Insurance and plates, ifta, 2290. Do you get like $0.30 off a gallon of diesel are you paying full sign price? Insurance on your tractor, workman's comp.
