Have a Cobra 29 with a cheap Coax and fed through the dash and door seal to a cheap antenna mounted on the mirror. I can’t even get any static on my radio. Only thing I can think is it’s not grounded. Not sure how to proceed with it.

Let's start with the radio, is the squelch off and rf gain up?
Woodchuck88 Thanks this. -
I’ll have to play with it in the morning. I’ll try that. What’s next? I believe it’s calibrated correctly also.
-
I'm with Ridgeline here. Squelch all the way to the left and RF gain all the way to the right. The Granite mirrors are usually grounded well enough. I believe from 2010 and newer they ran a ground cable from the body to the door in the door jam.
Woodchuck88 Thanks this. -
What's calibrated correctly?
-
Still nothing there with the squelch off and RF up. I put it on channel 40 and in calibrate mode and put it right on the line. Mirror does have a ground cable attached right to the antenna mount
-
After you calibrate it and flip the switch back to swr, what’s the swr reading according to the radios meter? Have you used this radio before? The words cheap antenna raises a red flag for me.
-
OK stop transmitting with the radio.
I have to suggest that you take it to a shop and have them look at it.
Something isn't right, maybe it is a mic issue or the radio is toast. -
I got it to work not sure what was wrong with thanks

I dont lime jow he ran the coax through the door either..Would still get noise but still....
Silly thought but what if its in pa mode?
Dont think you could do a cal set up then anyways or could you, dont remember..
