If you have experience in that field, have you ever considered working for the City of Boston? I know here in Denver, our wastewater guys (which includes vactor operators) make quite a bit more than that, they get OT, benefits, etc. They'll also have to be available for plowing snow in the Winter.
Unfortunately, if there's a job out there that gives someone everything they want, it's gotta be above our pay grades. It comes down to a matter of choosing what's the most important to you, and prioritizing based on that.
