I live in Washington just across the border from Oregon and Oregon does not recognize my permit.
I plan on getting a permit in Oregon but it's a real PITA to get one there.
It's my home state and I have family and property there so I need to go through all the hoops and redtape I guess to get it done.
I know you can get permitted for a number of states and be legal in most that way but I'd like to know more about the commercial vehicle aspect of it having been told in school it's illegal to carry a gun in a truck no mater where you are as in a federal law that covers all states.
Gun laws?

OH SWEET JESUS! ANOTHER GUN THREAD! Do we really need another? Maybe we should put a stop to newbies on forum from posting untill their history shows they figured out how to do a search or figure out that there are more pages when they see those numbers starting with 1 in the boxes!
here is one thread with 100 or more pages and it IS docked! http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...tions/31725-carrying-firearms-in-a-truck.html
The FIRST thing you must follow is if the company allows you to carry. If not then all laws do not matter no matter WHAT the Constitution says! Get caught with one in that companies truck and you just might NOT work as a driver again with THAT ding on the DAC!
Second some advice given here in TTR can be not so good! Read that thread I posted and you'll see some of the sdverse information given which comes from rumors and CB lawyer Talk and dinner counter BS!
GET info on this subject from the state you plan to travel through! EACH ONE! In other words WORK on your Constitutional Right to see where it is legal for you to carry your permitted weapon and where your CWP is good with ALL 48 continuous States!
If that company of yours goes into Canada forget driving for them or going into Canada!
You're going to find that carrying in a truck is a PITA! Places you can't carry that weapon into, someone breaking into your truck at one of these places where you had to leave it in the truck so now some low life has it, A traffic stop and having to inform the officer you have a weapon and the time you WILL lose because of it and it's LEGAL for them to hold your arse on the side of the road until they are absolutely certain that you and that play pretty of yours are clean! The next problem will be having your dispatcher up your six because you're now really late to that P/U or delivery because you just have to have protection! Or being so tired that when the window breaks you sleep through it only to wake up with the barrel of your toy sticking up your nose!
Yes it CAN happen so don't argue the point! It happened right here in my own house! They tried to get in the front door but I slept right through it, the only good thing is they didn't make it in! I AM a light sleeper but I was pretty ragged out!
Some state laws state that a weapon in a vehicle must be unloaded and the ammo placed out of reach! Yeah that does you a lot of good! The most useless thing in the world besides some dispatchers is an unloaded weapon!
Mods: Lets shut another go nowhere thread down as this subject can go in all kinds of directions! Or at least drop it in one of the other threads on "can we carry in trucks!"Last edited: Sep 23, 2010

Well I have in many other threads Pointed out the DOs and Donts of Carrying a Concealed weapon in a CMV we also have a few DOT and State Police who venture to the board.
You have the Right to Carry By Federal LAW, You have the Right to Transport across State Lines on the Federal Highway System.
The BIG thing you need to pay attention to IS State and Local Laws.
www.ccw.org has a list of states who have reciprocity. Also You can as I have Apply for OUT Of State Residents CHL in many states, at this time I am not able to carry in Maryland, D.C. or in NYC as they laws there are not conducive to the 2nd amendment. Although I will tell you this YOU can purchase a Lock Box, and Place your UNLOADED Weapon in the Box stored in a compartment NOT ACCESSIBLE while driving, with the AMMO Locked in another compartment. When I go to NYC or MD, well You figure it out. I have the Mentality that it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
IN the last 17 years I have had ZERO issues with my CHL's in any STATE. I will tell you this IF you choose to CARRY you need to Be Upfront with ALL Law ENFORCEMENT let them know you have it in your TRUCK upfront DO NOT MAKE THEM LOOK FOR IT, this is a CRIMINAL OFFENSE in many STATES. EVEN if you have the right by law to Carry Concealed in that STATE most STATES Require the permit Holder to INFORM Law Enforcement. So Play it Safe let them know, Most LEO's Will be laid back about it, SOME will out of Fear for their Safety react in a manner which seems to be unnecessary. Just be Calm, and Patient, again I have never Personally had any issue's and I am not exactly the Poster Boy for the "typical" Trucker. Long Goatee, Tattoo's all over a cross between a Redneck and a Biker. But like I said ZERO Issues. -

And my personal fav: www.tutswords.com
How's bout we stop the blah-blah-blah guessing and yapp'n and learn the laws or at least get some real answers?

The real question is why not? -
how about a flare gun call it safety equip. shoot someone with it and they will wished they were shot with a real gun!!!

i live in massachusetts, and i have a class A license to carry and my understanding is they make the gun laws here so confusing just to try and get you to mess up. tell you what though, call one of the gun stores in the state and they'll be able to give you a straight answer on what you would need to do.

Thanks to those that posted links. My only internet access is through my phone at the moment so I can't do links. Thanks also for the advice on calling the local gun store. My info on mass came from the instructor in my conceal and carry course who is a long time family friend. He gave it as a heads up to all of us being that your state is the strictest.
