In the pix it appears there tie downs on the rub rails.Try not to do that. The rub rails are there to protect your ties in the event of a side swipe. I don't know if it is illegal our not but it is a practice that should be avoided.

I uploaded it as an attachment as well, if you want to download and save it. As far as 'tossed around', I suppose that depends a lot on the driver

Anything outside of the rub rails requires an over width permit

Was reading the foward and they said 20 degree side roll is normal and expect 30 to 40 degree roll in the winter. I don't want to go on that ride!

Yes, it is legal and the way many trailers are set up, you don't have much choice. Sometimes you just got to work with what you got, even if it ain't ideal.Mommas_money_maker and Ruthless Thank this.

i used to always have pipe stacks. I chained the pipes together across the deck first. put on half the load. Chained the pipes again and straped the first half down drop the second half of hydro poles on the straped the load again. steel pipe I always strap each layer and "gut wrap" atleast twice per layer. Never had any troubles with any load!

Ive got a question or idea about belly wrapping.
Why not have an extra long strap with NO steel end (flat hook removed). Wrap your load and use winches on either side of the trailer to tighten down, instead of just using one side.
I can never get any of my belly wraps tight enough (straps) to make me happy. And, this thread got me to thinking why not winch from both sides.
Anybody ever do this? Or am I being stupid and missing an obvious reason this isnt possible? -
I don't see why you couldn't do it that way. When I belly wrap with chains I put a binder on both sides to get it tight. With coated pipe though I use two straps pulling to opposite sides of the trailer.

If I use a belly wrap like you are talking about I take 2 of my straps and hook them together at the metal ends to make a very long strap and then winch it down on both sides (opposite) after making a complete wrap. Thats a true belly wrap, if you only do it from one side in which I have used also then you need to make sure you have 2 different wraps and they should be on opposite sides. Thats more of a half butted belly wrap.
Also, the definition of a belly wrap/band is that it goes around the load as I explained above. Gut wrap goes through the load as in the layer wrapping as others have explained.Kansas Thanks this. -
You must have missed what I stated awhile back. I do exactly that. I have 50 foot and 75 foot straps without hooks and winches on both sides of my trailer. Works like a charm.
Tri City Canvas has bulk straps and will cut them to any size you want. That is where I got mine.Kansas Thanks this.
