Oh I'm just joking around. I get it all the time. It's hard for me to convince people I meet outside of work what I do for a living. They find it harder to believe I've been at it for 8 years.

I still get carded for cigarettes. :(

You fight every ticket, guilty or not. I've beaten 2 California tickets and I was guilty as sin.

When planning your route use all the tools in the box and spend time. It takes a long time to make a wrong turn in a truck. I use maps. If i am going to work an area a lot I will get a local map. I use gps. I find that the gps will get me there but it is often wrong and if I know the best way I will save time. I can route better than the gps about 25% of time. I will call customer. If that doesn't work I will goggle it. Also I will call drivers I know and ask. Getting drivers phone numbers where you work and calling them will help keep you out of trouble and get the experience you need to make better decisions. Each of these ways can also be wrong and you have to use your brain and take responsibility for your decisions. Fight every violation. Life isn't fair. The only ticket that ended up on my record for the last twenty years was a speeding ticket in hot springs county ar for 66 mph in a 55. My truck only went 62. I was behind a long line of traffic. To fight the ticket I was told I had to ask the trooper to write the judge. So I don't buy the line you did it pay it. I get it off my record even if it costs twice as much.

Yeah, cost me $256 for over length on 44 out of Redding following GPS. Fought it by mail, you put up the $$ to pay fine if you lose along with your statement why you dispute the ticket, CHP submits response (hopefully not), judge rules against you. Your money goes away instead of coming back to you. My contention was he did not measure truck and he didn't. No matter.

Can appeal, too. Did not. CHP was pretty decent and didn't write it up as a moving violation "this time, and this time only, fella." Okay, fine. Didn't see sign at night. He actually had with him big photos in color--I think 8x10 and plastic wrapped of the sign I'd missed. So they do this all the time.

Caught me right at a perfect place to turn around--with a little help from his red lights. Gave me good directions and a short cut through Redding. Cool!

Cost of doing business, really. Nothing to get up about. Won't happen again.

    At least, not there...

If traffic won't let you over park the truck on the highway with your signal on. Eventually someone will let you over. I do it all the time in the Bay Area.

I've gone to court a few times with my son when he was younger and once for one of his friends. In NH if your under a certain age you lose your license to drive for 6 months if you get a moving violation. Both went to court with shirt and tie. They did not make an excuse for speeding and apologized. The judge did not let the ticket go on their record. They paid a fine. BUT!!!! If they got another ticket within one year it would be what is called cumulative. That means they would file 2 speeding tickets on their driving record at the same time.

I also know two truck drivers that did what I told the to do. They put on a shirt and tie. Did not make an excuse for what they did and apologized. They asked to only pay the fine because they would lose their jobs. The judge just made them pay the fine.

Judges are not a bunch of dick heads. You call him/her sir, judge or mam. You put on a shirt and tie, shave and get a haircut if your a freaking hippie. A judge will notice you put your best foot forward just for this purpose!

My best friend is a cop in my town and told me this years and years ago and it works. IT WORKS!!!

    Rant off.

Niiiiice. I'm gonna try that. I'm actually gonna drive 3:30 hours to that court and see if the judge notices that and thinks I'm taking this for real.

Same here bro, people don't believe i do this for a living. See what I mean, people already have that perception about us drivers that we are dirty, smelly, etc etc. I'm always smelling nice, nicely combed, and showered. Plus girls like that. Oh yeah.
