if the dr. does put you on insulin, you can go thru the process of getting a diabetes exemption from the DOT. i am going thru the process now, it takes six months to get, but it would be worth it if you cannot control you sugar with exercise and diet and oral meds. i hope i have mine in dec. when i get out of school. good luck to you

    Baack Thanks this.

i never understood the reason for not allowing insulin dependant drivers on the road. doesnt seem much worse than pills to me. but i think that reg has helped some folks get off insulin.. ;)

I have treated many diabetics on insulin and they can fluctuate quite largely. You would be amazed at the way some are.

The intention of the dot program is to get the ones that actually try to maintain a proper balance.

I am on a pump and my bs stay very tight. Best thing a type 1 can do. Also if you are on insulin and have a waiver you can not start out with a bs under 100. Dot has some really tight rules plus it says on back of license that you are on a waiver. No way to hide it,which you would never want to do anyway

If you have urine honey, your sugar is way to high.

Sooooo what your saying is that me peeing straight MT Dew is a bad thing?!?

In all seriousness trucking has broke me of some very bad eating and drinking habit. But alas I am overweight and predisposed to being diabetic so I am sure this will be my fate some day as well.
