Hail damage windshield DOT questions

He didn’t say it had no mirrors, said it cracked all the mirrors. Same with windshields.

 

You can swap a windshield in less than a hour by mobile. Free too if insurance covers it. The rest of the stuff becomes small fry. Mirrors would be the worst of it along with the sleeper glass. We have called mobile to swap glass in our vehicles for free after storms for years. Takes a hour or so the next day or even after the storm.

If you did drive with that damage and hit someone because of it well.. it will go badly. A tow is too expensive and not worth this little bit of damage that is easily replaced by mobile. The cab light covers should be in most any truck stop.

Just remember if a storm cell is big enough to hail on you, it's big enough to drop a tornado nearby.

THe weather is going to be a bit unsettled in Colorado for a while, so between the hail and twisters it may be a while since many others got hit.

 

The twister season is still ongoing, Dakotas down to Nebraska today. Bad storms elsewhere into Md, PA and down into Arkansas.

As a side note Arkansas 71B and I-540 bridges are closed at Fort Smith (Or van buren) As the flooding proceeds. Dams and Locks have been evaucated and some are flooded out. I-430 gates will be closed this week in Little Rock don't know if they will close that bridge. NLR Flood defense walls are up. There are some houses behind those. (Near the I-30 crossing and other 4 bridges etc)

Reminds me of Hurricane Anges in the 70's early, where the Conowingo Dam was river flowing over the top of the road way 8 feet and the tops of the rails 5 feet as the river spilled over the entire thing even with the 50 gates open. (Susquehanna river Maryland Havre de' Grace 10 miles above the Bay)

For us the flooding will be historic, exceeding any records made by man back to 1800's here.

There isn't no friggen company going to have insurance that covers windshields. lol
That is by themselves, now insurance will cover them if the truck is seriously damaged. I always had a 5,000 deductible, most company probably have more.

 

I see it's a Cascadia. Freightliner sells mirror glasses. no need to buy entire mirror assembly. it's 10 min job to replace each mirror glass.

 

IMO Just make sure you LOG it. And a vehicle inspection sheet documenting the damage.
I'v done that before and it kept me out of hot water but the company had to pay.
