According to The Quest Laboratories web site, they do hair analysis that goes back no more than 90 days when they analyze hair samples for companies. Quest is the largest drug testing company in the USA and they have analyzed urine samples from me.... :)

If you were tested twice, a week apart, it would be possible your second sample fell outside the 90 days of when you last used the illegal drug. And so the first sample tests positive and the second sample tests negative. I would guess it is just that simple.

Drivers who know there may be a chance of failure and still take the test. For gods sake, you only humiliate yourself and blacken your name. I'm not saying the op is one of these.

Your right about the false positive, just wrong about the substance. It is not false Amphetamine positives it is false Methamphetamine positives. Anybody that still takes high dosages of Ephedrine should read this letter.

Hair isn't magical, it can only record biomarkers that are in the bloodstream. Length of time the guest can detect is based on a few different factors. Your scalp hair normally grows at 1/2inch per month, and takes about 10days to grow from the actual follicle to above the scalp. In general, they only test 1.5inches which comes out to 3 months. If your hair is longer, they can segment it and have a longer period of detection. Body hair is different though, due to the slow growth cycles it can detect up to 12 months of prior use. In general, if someone used drugs 2 weeks ago, shaved their head with a razor today, the hair that grows out going forward would be "clean". Wait a few years and carriers will start doing toenail testing, that test goes back up to 18 months.(just submitted a toenail test for a custody dispute)

And on urine testing- single usage is normally only detectable for 2-4 days, occasional use 6-9days, and even heavy habitual users rarely test positive past 14days. The "30 day detection" myth stems from a non controlled study in the 80's, where they did contributor the subjects to make sure they were not still smoking lol.

Hair tests are just stupid. Look, people smoke weed. The WORST you can say about weed is that it's 1000 times LESS bad for you than alcohol.

Argue that point and your an idiot. The science on it is really clear.

    BUT.

You can smoke pot or be a truck driver. Not both. It's not fair or reasonable, but it's the law.

I would never go to work for a company that tests hair, the dsame way I'd never go to work for a company with driver-facing cameras. It's a matter of principle.

If three months abstinence isn't good enough for you, then F off.

Hair follicles test positive up to a year. Which is why System Transport got a great driver and Melton didn't.

I don't smoke pot because I have to take a pee test after any serious incident, which I have no control over. A stupid 4-wheeler can cut in front of me tomorrow, I don't want to be in the position of being considered at-fault because I smoked a joint 5 weeks ago.

Again. Not fair or reasonable, but that's the way it is.

Not true 100% of the time. Depending on the quality and quantity of the marijuana used THC levels can be detected for up to as many as 12 weeks.
    From the website linked to:
How long is THC detectable in urine? If you are a chronic marijuana user, THC can be detected in your system using a urine test for up to 12 weeks depending on the quantity as well as frequency of use. Note that if you just used marijuana once and stopped, the odds of passing a test within the first week are decent but you can still test positive for up to 30 days.

Should be able to smoke pot anytime after work, as long as you do not show up loaded. Just like booze, up can drink a few on time off.
American people need to stand up and make pot legal. Insist on developing a test that tells if you smoked during work are shortly before. If your loaded during an incident or driving go to jail!
But my time off is mine and I should be able to smoke a few Mary Janes if I want.
