Why do you say that? I'm 54 and I got in. There are guys 60+ out there, some just driving part time for a few days a week. The industry is severely understaffed. Money is very good too if you work hard at it.

Your right, I ran into a man on an oil rig that was retired military then retired police and at the age of 59 was hired with one of the big companies. For me reality is starting to set in that you will not live forever. When the time comes to sit back and enjoy your golden years I don't want to be chasing rainbows. I want to make my move now so I can have a nest egg later.

These numbers I'm about to throw around and out here very differently per yard and how things are setup by management.
I went from 110-140 hrs every 2 week 6 on 3 off on Avg in my old yard; where raises are lets just say hard to come by.. Though they trained you on everything so the Knowledge was rich..
60-72K a best For Operator Assistant pay
To a situation where Its 160 on your split week 2 weeks on 1 week off to where on your 2 weeks on your on the clock its 308 hrs Just like clock work....
That one check is $7K alone when it comes in... Every 3 pay days.(Hence the Reason My Post have gone down
, I work a lot more hours hehe.... Which opens the door now for Cost of living Raises 1x a year at Service Operator... Took Me almost 3 years to reach The Land Of Milk and Honey; but I'm here now; and I'm #### sure glad I stuck around.
Minimum $$$,$$$ Yes 6 figures; The Raises have flowed in with the promotions also. I did the work to get them at my old camp to Service Operator but no raises. The system here is well designed for you to succeed.. Granted I came in with the knowledge from the other yard; it really shined and got me moved up exponentially. So if the Yard your at is Tight on the Money; there are Yards out there that aren't.
You don't have to always jump jobs for a pay raise. You just might need to trade camps.Mantis Toboggan Thanks this. -
Not sure I'm comprehending what you've written. You're on the clock 308 hours in two weeks? When do you sleep? And what do mean by 160 on your split week?
-

You get paid Sleep on your reset
2/1 is 2 weeks on 1 week off your pay schedule is the same, but your weeks very thus your hours as we'll. -
Does this mean that you hook up your equipment then take a nap in your truck while the equipment is on auto pilot? Or do you mean that you are on the clock as soon as your work starts, like you punch in Monday and don't punch out until Sunday.
-
Most of these jobs have downtime where you are still out in the field on the clock but able to get some sleep in the truck.
I'm in the van out to location now.. been on the clock 2 hours.
I know Halliburton does something called variable paid overtime which is basically what you described. -
A buddy of mine that works cement for bh said that supposedly slb and big red upped their hourly wage, can someone confirm this?
-
I'm going to slb for $19/hr and job bonuses but I don't think Halliburton has went up.
