There are some locations and positions like this; but there's more responsibility and accountability with those positions. You clock in and you stay clocked in till you clock out or your duty rotation comes up.
Then there is the you get to a location and you hook up and the casing gets stuck; 5 days later its done and you can finish the job or your relief is sent out to relieve you because your duty rotation is over.
Regardless you get sleep time and its paid, not really by Halliburton; but by the rig; because he's ie The Company Man is paying wait time =Dmarine90 Thanks this. -
So then u would stay out at the rig for 5 days? How do you shower or eat?
-
Shower and Food? You will get breaks and can head to the Nearest Truck Stop! Though you should pack enough food and stuff for the first 2 days minimum. There are times when that might not be available and I have shared with others. There's usually a pow wow on the site and its like what do you got? Then we divide stuff up like cigarettes and chips and there's always water or drinks around...
The longest I've been on a site was 6 days on a surface string to make matters worse; you don't expect it on a surface string but it can happen. Didn't bring the normal 3 days of stuff and neither did the other guys. We ended up dividing up stuff among each other till the 4th day; when we ran out of stuff. The company man released us to go get some supplies in town but wanted us back ASAP, he was adamant that this could be resolved quickly; like the last 3 days lol.... Yes he's the boss when you get on site... He's paying your wages from the moment you hit the site in most cases and definitely after the included hrs on the contract.security58 Thanks this. -
Dang, seems a bit crazy. ..what kinda food would u bring?
-
This is so true and I don't think a lot of guys who are new to the oilfield know this... First rule out on site is to keep yourself and others safe... the second is to ALWAYS keep the company man happy. Hell, I've started bringing out extra chilled gatorade to site almost daily now and being sure to always offer some to everyone in the data van (including the company man). Seems to keep these guys happy and now they don't double-check my paperwork when I hand them a $40,000 bill for the day's fuel lol
-
Just got back from my interview, I think it went great. .The guy said they're offering 13 hourly and I have my cdl.....I don't know what to think of that yet...I guess you gave have to start somewhere. ..waiting game now

That's Halliburton for ya; lowest pay out of all the majors. Whatever, you can use it to your advantage by letting them get you all your safety certs and training, then you can bounce to another one of the majors in a few months for significantly higher pay. Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, H&P Drilling, etc all LOVE to hire ex-Halli hands.security58 Thanks this.

Remember your first thread and my reply where I said you would probably be better off just getting a 2nd job.....?
-
Yes I do. That's why I continue to ask a bunch of questions. I think you'll agree that there are a bunch of widely varying experiences among those working the oil patch. Today I took care of the last part of my CDL school application...physical and drug test. Assuming I'm accepted to the program, I start mid-July. I hope by the time I finish in September I'm comfortable with the path I choose to follow.
